3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 hotstuff (3249) - USA - MAR 18, 2008
Bottle. Small fizzy head that mostly diminished, virtually no lacing, hazy, and very little carbonation observed. Nose was fruity, spicy, some clove, bananas, and wheat. Ditto for the flavor with a slightly dry finish. Tingly mouthfeel and medium body. Quaffable, easy to drink but IMO there are better of this style to be had.Still worthy of a try.

Originally reviewed: 1/28/10. Hadn’t seen this offering from HF around this area until recently. Grabbed one the other day. Poured into my weizen glass. Pours a cloudy dark gold with a thick off-white head on top. Retention was weak; left no lace on the glass. Scents of yeast, bubble gum, clove, and honey.
The mouth on this was a little spritzy, but it mellowed out in the end. Decent body. Flavors of banana, wheat, light lemon zest, and a sweet candy-like finish. This was a decent American Hefe. I could drink this anytime. Perfect for the summer time, but enjoyable any other season.

Bottle. Hazy golden color, scant head. Aroma of lemon cleaner. Taste is spoiled lemons. Bad bottle?

Belmont bottle. Only knock against the appearance was the lack of a head; plenty of carbonation just no retention at all. Big banana, clove and spice in the aroma. The flavor lost me a little. There seemed to be a heavy grain taste to it. Just didn’t seem refreshing to me. Okay though.

Pours an opaque orange tan color with a medium white head. Aroma is hoppier than many hefes...grassy, spicy, and skunky hop notes...faint hints of citrus and yeasty spice. Flavor has some nice tangy citrus, wheatiness, clovey spice, and nice hop notes. Mouthfeel is medium and lively/silky with a wheaty/tangy dry finish.

Bottle purchased at Blacklick Wine & Spirits. Clear yellow pour with a thin white head. Aroma of wheat, banana and some spice. Sweet malt and creamy wheat flavor with peppery yeast and banana before a spicy finish.

Thanks to JaBier for sharing a bottle. This brew is a clear golden color with a medium densely packed white head that evaporates steadily. Partial rings of lacing. The aroma consists of wheat , bananas and malt. Light body with a fruity character of bananas and citrus. Notes of wheat and sweet malt in the background. The finish is fruity with a wheaty aftertaste. Decent overall.

22 oz. bottle from Total Wine (Triangle) in Raleigh, NC. Hazy orange pour with a frothy off-white head. Aroma of orange peel and light banana. The flavor is heavy on the citrus with lemon and orange notes and hints of bubblegum. Light and refreshing. The citrus is heavier than many wheat ales/hefeweizens but it is a good beer.

Refrigerated 22 oz. bottle poured into a weizen glass. Pours orange with large light orange highlights top and bottom with small off-white head that dissapates very quickly. No lacing, low carbonation, and pretty thick body. Aroma is banana and clove, taste is starts sour banana, some lemon, and finishes light clove. Expected something a little better.

Bomber thanks to Ryan011235. Pours hazy golden-orange color with a small white head on top. Wheaty aroma with lemon, orange, banana, coconut, and spice. The flavor is wheaty, spicy, and a little nutty with pineapple, coconut, and orange. Medium-bodied with a smooth mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Overall pretty good for the style.

22 ounce bottle into weizen glass, no bottle date but I picked up a fairly fresh batch at the brewery a couple weeks ago. Pours hazy golden straw color with 1-2 fingers of a very foamy white head with decent retention, that reduces to a ring of lace. Tons of carbonation streaming from the bottom of the glass. Aromas of big lemon, clove, spices, banana, bread, and a bit of bubblegum. Fairly nice aromas with nice strength. Taste of huge banana, clove, spices, lemon, and bubblegum. No bitterness on the finish as expected, with some lingering notes of banana, clove, bubblegum, and spices. Medium-high carbonation with a medium body; and a somewhat of a creamy mouthfeel surprisingly. No alcohol in the taste or finish noticed as expected. Overall a nice Hefeweizen that I had no trouble finishing. Quite refreshing and easy to drink.
