bottled, big thanks to chris for this one. poured a rich shade of amber with a hint of haze and a lasting off-white head; aroma of apple and rhubarb tart with lemon zest and hints of nutmeg and cinnamon; soft mouthfeel; some rusty tea flavours with a good hit of bitterness and some light lurking grapefruit. nice to drink a holiday beer that balances the xmas spices with some tangy hops
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Guerde (992) - St. Paul, Minnesota, USA - FEB 23, 2012
(bottle from bhensonb, thanks!) Pours a slightly hazed orangish/amber with a medium cream-colored head and some lacing. Aroma is certainly spice-forward, with plenty of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and biscuit malt, which when put together smells a lot like a gingerbread cookie. Ginger gets stronger as it warms, and the beer smells passingly similar to a pumpkin beer with further warming. Flavor has plenty of sweet caramel malt, toasty biscuit, faint yam, with a quick shift of spice that abruptly slices through the sweetness. The finish lingers with spicy hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium and carbonation is correct. Overall I was pleasantly surprised by this one, and it reminds me a lot of Great Lakes Christmas.

Average carbonation. Malt, spice, hop finish is lightly sweet and medium bitter. 7.8%ABV is completely hidden throughout.

22 Dec 2011, bottle. light amber, clear, occasional bubbles, frothy head. malty aroma with some very faint spices that i couldn’t identify. med body and moderately fizzy. i don’t know why they call it a malt beverage instead of beer. up front there is a resiny hop, sugary red fruit malt, and maybe some spices. alcohol is pretty prominent but not dominant. pretty nice. a bit bitter finish. i like this.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 rayOfBeer (388) - El Cerrito, California, USA - NOV 26, 2011
Bomber: pours red-amber with medium off-white head and low carb. Aroma is slightly vegetal with some cinnamon and caramel. Flavor is disjointed with cinnamon and nutmeg bittering the tongue, while vegetal hops run around in the background together with a little caramel malt. Palate is mild sweet with a lingering bitterness that takes over. Maybe this beer would do better with a little time but not my favorite now.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 bnoel09 (273) - Elk Grove, California, USA - NOV 18, 2011
On tap at the brewery. Deep copper color with no real head. Aroma has a variety of spices and is reminiscent of gingerbread. Flavor matches the aroma well with some bitterness on the finish. Medium bodied with a slightly sticky mouthfeel. Overall a nice winter beer.
