3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Ibrew2or3 (5823) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - JAN 21, 2011Bomber pours deep clear copper to amber with thin tan head. The aroma is a bit spicy with hops then quickly getting into faint sharp citrus followed by a thin layer of caramel. The taste has a mix of spicy hops, citrus hops and caramel malts as well as sort of crystal malts, roasted malts and a touch of chocolate and earthiness. This thing grows toward nice bitter pine hops pulling the profile almost clear of the varied malty notes for a while. Nice brew exhibiting a moderate flavor punch that is pleasing hop forward. Loved it.

Bottle,
this ale had a clear dark red (candy apple) pour and made a one and a half finger light tan colored that receded to a thin cover and sticky ring, the glass had a medium flowing stream of bubbles, and it left spots and small fingers of lacing on the glass, there was a layer of medium brown sediment on the bottom of the bottle,
this ale had aromas of toasted malt, chocolate, caramel, light hops, there was a light caramel and malt sweetness,
and it had flavors of toasted malt, caramel, and some chocolate, same caramel and malt sweetness as the nose,
the finish had a light bitterness,
this drink had a thin mouth feel with a little creaminess, it had average to lively carbonation,
a nice drink.

Nothing special. I was expecting more. I heard good things but the 2 I tried from them werent great. Both had off flavors and funky tastes going on. It was weird. The middle palate and taste was too funky and some dank nuttiness. Hmmm. Hard to say but def. funky

I used to think all these red/amber ales were stupid but lately I’ve been taking a shine to them. The good ones are slightly milder on hops than an APA and a bit more malt depth. And this is a good one. It’s a red brown beer w/ a foamy head and big straps of lace. The nose has a hint of herbal hops but roast takes the center stage. It is practically in the porter range as far as roastiness. I have certainly had some brown ales w/ less roasted malt character. Palate is light slightly oily but still light feeling w/ gentle carbonation. Lemon citrus zest rounds out nutty malts, bread and toasted cereal notes in the flavor. I could see myself writing this off as bland back in the day but now that I’m older and dumber, I can tell you I quite like it. It has a depth of flavor w/o being heavy or over-the-top.
