2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Fairly dark with little or no head. Slightly sweet, but not very thick. Actually, kind of boring. One of the better brews Hops makes though.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
The best of all the beers in my sampler. While I was expecting some kind of ale, itís really more of a dark lager. Roasty, grainy and slightly olivine, this was on the verge of passing for a thin porter. Dark brown, fizzy, without much head. It is a beer that demands food -- it did pretty well with the loaded nachos. My favorite Hops brew so far, but that ainít saying much.

The best of Hopís offerings but still not great! Nice color & taste. Really good with spicy foods.

3.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Eden Prairie, MN location: Similar to the Thoroughbred Red, no aroma. Hops must not brew their beers for that feature. Deep, dark red color with small bubble head and pretty good retention. Roasted malt undertones, strong caramel flavor and medium alcohol aftertaste. A good beer that would be even better with a stronger dose of hops. This is Hopsí best beer, although I hope to run across their Big Skeeter Pale Ale when it is íin season.í

3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A good beer with above average flavor and a really good finish. Iíll always love Hops for getting me into less mainstream darker beers, but now that I know how good beer can be, Iíve had to mark it down a bit.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Faint roasted aroma and a slightly roasted taste. You get the feeling that thereís a good beer trying hard to get out, but what youíre left with is fairly disappointing.

1.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Flavor and/or aroma is hard to find. There is a little, tucked away. And this is the best Hops has to offer. Iíve been to three different Hops restaurants on four different occasions; the food was never anything special, and the beer was always very disappointing. But Iíve always kept an open-mind. Alligator is their best... but itís pretty sad.

3 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
I had to bury my nose deep to get the aroma, and this ale was a little more carbonated than I thought it should be, but it had a great finish and was easy to drink. Definitely their best offering, unless the Lumberjack Oatmeal Stout is in season.
