COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This classic American amber ale is brewed with caramel malts to balance the hops with the malt sweetness and to add rich color. Regardless of the beer changing names in different regions, this beer is a nationwide favorite.

Reddish-amber colour. Woody, lightly citrusy nose with caramel accents. Balanced palate, somewhat light but with a bit of stickiness. There’s some floral, fruity hop and forward caramel.

Served on draft at the brewpub. Finally a beer with SOMETHING happening. Pours a clear dark red color with a medium sized offwhite head. Poor head retention. Extremely faint tart malt aroma. The taste is caramel malts, herbal hops and a bitter finish. Thin bodied.

On tap in Matthews nc, man these beers suck. Another disaster, how hard is it to make a good simple 5% amber? These are just greedy bastards.

On tap @ Hops Golden. Clear coppe orange appearance with an off white head. Dull skunky, light caramel nose. Caramel, amber malty, nutty, slightly bitter flavor.

On tap at the Alexandria, Virginia location. Pours a moderate amber color with a thin light tan head. Fades quickly and leaves a thin collar around the edges. The nose is quite bad with a strong medicinal component alongside a strong odor of wet, stale cardboard. Going into the taste it’s more of the same with the addition of quite a lot of grain. Almost rancid. Body is light to medium with a very harsh finish. I could not finish this. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 12-20-2010

Draft at Hops Grillhouse & Brewery, Alexandria. Poured a reddish amber color. Aroma had a malt body, touch of fruits. Flavor was a touch of dried fruits. Probably my second favorite of their regular beers.

On tap at Hops Golden Colorado poured a clear amber with a small lasting amber head. Aromas of carmel and light fruittiness. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of carmel, light bread and a hint of fruittiness with a smooth finish.

Strawberry blonde pour with ring retention. Fruity earthen nose. Some ESB notes with metallic hues, malt, copper and fruits. Nice bitter back, but a thin palate leaves character to be desired. Honorable mention, but nothing to write home about.
