3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 hughie (3994) - Bedford, Bedfordshire, ENGLAND - MAY 14, 2009
Thanks to Fin for this bottle direct from Britain’s most innovative brewery. Dark amber with an off white head. Aroma is a solid sweet caramel malt with evanescent hints of lemon pomade and ash. Taste has sweetness and spices (Jan is right about the cardamom) nicely balanced, followed by a forceful tobacco and elastoplast bitterness. As enjoyable as I expected.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 12/20 Alphadelic (1630) - Portland, Oregon, USA - APR 8, 2009
Bottle:
A brown brew with a beige foam. A very spicey aroma with big hints of clovey sweetness.
A slight smokiness in the mouth balances the offensive spices from the nose. It has an unsettling finish, giving me a numb tongue as if I had just been to the dentist. In fact it had a the root beer twang of the mouthwash at the dentists too. The spicing is relatively calm and balanced but I have had far better.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Fin (6180) - Merton, Oxfordshire, England, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - JAN 28, 2009
Bottle that I picked up from the brewery 23-01-09, and consumed 27-01-09 Pours chesnut colour with a white head. The aroma is subtley spicy but also with a touch of earthy hops as well. taste is really quite decent, I get a little blast of prune juice, some ginger, toffee and then the sweet malts flood through, also noting some nutmeg or similar in the mouth. Quite juicy and a touch of yeast showing at the end, nice beer. A7 A4 F7 P4 OV14 3.6
