This beer is dedicated to the breweries that once made this style of beer in vast quantities for export to the Baltic States. It contains five different malts and dark treacle, but only one variety of hop which is Northern Brewer.
Once the initial fermentation is over the beer is transferred into a conditioning tank, placed in the brewery cellar and aged for a period of six months. This allows the complex flavours to develop before the next stage which is bottling. The beer is reprimed with sugar and a fresh dose of alcohol tolerant yeast, bottled and then placed in a conditioning room between 25-30 degrees C. After 4-6 weeks the beer is checked for carbonation levels, taste and other quality parameters. If all is well, then it is ready to be sold which is usually around November or December. As the beer is only made once a year there is a limited supply each year which is usually around 1600 bottles. Every bottle is numbered and marked with the month and year of production and is therefore unique.

Opaque black beer, small tan head. Milky dark malt nose. Smooth semi soft palate. Nice dark malt - robust but not bitter and with lactose creamy sweetness. Nice smooth Impy, not much complexity but quite sumptuous.

Thanks to Leighton for this bottle! Black bodied, with a creamy, very fine, tan head. Cookies, leather, some chocolate and butterscotch. Bit disappointing. Very smooth soft body, warming alcohol clearly present. Sweet, round taste with a light hop sharpness. Not as thick or rich as modern imperial stouts often are at this abv. Tasty, but not outstanding or standing out. (33cl bottle)

Bottled@The Chriso "Rock The Roof Down" pre-gbbf shindig. Very deep brown colour, close to black with a small beigeish brown head. Aroma is liquorice, roasted malts, some alcohol as well as dark dry fruits and soms slight burning sugar. Flavour is roasted malts, some liquorice, mild fruityness as well as some raisins. Longlasting big malty finish.

275ml. Glossy pitch beer with a loose-bubbled, fleeting tan halo retreating immediately to the edges of the glass. Well roasted, espresso-dappled nose with attractive shiny red apple notes. Powdery on the palate like cocoa; smooth and subtly fruity with more of that polished red apple easing into a deep coffee and bitter chocolate finish; maybe some nectarine-like yeast leaning towards Belgium. Mildly smoky, cigar-like tail. Good stout but simplistic at 9.8%with nothing to distinguish it from the pack.

275ml Bottle - Very dark in colour. Leather, vinous fruit, Bournville chocolate and coffee in the aroma. The taste is rich and complex with notes of plain chocolate, coffee and roasted malt. A nice one to sip and rather indulgent.
