COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle; Brewed annually.
This beer is dedicated to the breweries that once made this style of beer in vast quantities for export to the Baltic States. It contains five different malts and dark treacle, but only one variety of hop which is Northern Brewer.
Once the initial fermentation is over the beer is transferred into a conditioning tank, placed in the brewery cellar and aged for a period of six months. This allows the complex flavours to develop before the next stage which is bottling. The beer is reprimed with sugar and a fresh dose of alcohol tolerant yeast, bottled and then placed in a conditioning room between 25-30 degrees C. After 4-6 weeks the beer is checked for carbonation levels, taste and other quality parameters. If all is well, then it is ready to be sold which is usually around November or December. As the beer is only made once a year there is a limited supply each year which is usually around 1600 bottles. Every bottle is numbered and marked with the month and year of production and is therefore unique.

2010-07-31. Very dark brown black body with modest beige head fades. Rich malty body with modest alcohol, very light dark fruity character. 8+ Rich aroma but a bit milder than it could be, simple sweet malty profile. Smooth medium bodied palate. Not ultra complex but a very nice imperial stout. Bottle at ChrisOs Pre-GBBF Shindig 2010

A Mes rate. Bottle at home.
Deep dark chestnut with a thin but well lasting tight beige head. Spectacular on the nose. Big fruity malt, angel cake, pear drops from the booze and some cookies and cream. Very good indeed. Instant hit of chocolate in the mouth backed up with the big fruity base. More cake but this time its of the Battenburg variety. A faint hin of spice that is glorious, a faint hint of cardboard that is not so. Big hit of boozy warmth in the finish that is, if Im being honest, maybe a little too much but right now its not causing me any trouble. Absolutely superb dark chocolate aftertaste that has incredible length. Another very good beer from Hopshackle. Thanks Tom.

Bottle, Carringtons, Chorlton. A deep dark brown pour, with little in the way of a head. Aroma revealed itself with a big jab to the beak pipes that had a big hit of rich dark chocolate and brandy soaked christmas cake. Lovely stuff. Silky smooth and warming, the flavour was on the sweet side and had a great balance of roasted malt and fruit that was very satisfying. A pleasure, and definitely worth a look.
