3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Fin (6178) - Merton, Oxfordshire, England, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - MAR 16, 2010
Was very kindly given a few bottles of the VC, VF and VB as trial beers July 2009 by Nigel (Mrhopshackle) and also some more in February 2010 when picking up some beer from Hopshackle. Pleased they have now been officially released. Rating taken from notes August 2009 when consumed with Craig (cgarvieuk) at Cropredy Festival and March 2010. Pours light amber this is really well balanced. nice sticky toffee from the outset, soft in the mouth and pleasant warmth from the alcohol, there is a good tang and the sweetness is well compensated for by the hoppy presence, in fact I like this more so than the Cascade version which surprised me. Cheers Nigel. A7 A4 F8 P4 Ov16 3.9

Courtesy of fonefan; parallel with Vertigo "VC"; brewed in April 2009, 2 years old Cloudy orange-amber color. The aroma is sweetish, with mellow malt, light alcohol, light fruits and light English hops. Good body strength, round mouthfeel, with a good and sweet malt flavor; the bitterness is objectively strong, but less prominent of the malt; there is a good fruity vein (from the fermentation) and only light sweaty hops. Very good; balanced; better this hop’s character than the one in the VC.

Bottle. Deep gold with a thin head. Aromas are toffee malts with sweet pine. Woody and earthy with caramel and spices. Quite woody with cream. Flavours are sweet caramel and toffee with peppery green hops. Very hoppy with sweet malts being well balanced. Pine on the finish. Warming and peppery alcohol follow. Very good.

275ml bottle from Pigs Ear Beer Festival, day 3 on 2 December 2010. Bottle #967/1300. Produced April 2009. Best before end November 2014. Orangey amber colour. Orange peel aroma and flavour. Quite a lot of tart fruit too. Fairly sweet - seemed as much like a barley wine as an IPA to me but pretty tasty. Alcohol is warming but not too hot.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 harrisoni (10909) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - DEC 3, 2010
Small bottle bought at Pigs Ear BF 2010 and drunk at home. Hazy deep orange amber colour with lasting beige head. I love these single hop beers and I love Fuggles so really forward to this. Sherberty leafy hop aroma. Big sweet syrupy IPA, more akin to a hoppy barley wine to be honest rather than an IPA. Some warming strawberry jam on the malts. Really this has to be a barley wine. Lovely and warming on a very cold wintery night. Hops are there but not overly dominant. Some tangy bitterness on the finish.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 madmitch76 (9867) - , Essex, ENGLAND - JUL 28, 2012
30th October 2010 Cloudy amber brown beer. Residual off white head. Toffee malt nose. Semi crisp and semi dry palate. Creamy dark toffee but with a carbonated sucker punch. Very light smoke. The toffee blends in to the subtle sweet orange marmalade. Soft finish, interesting beer. Again miffed at being sold an 18 month old IPA - but this is a decent barleywine!
