3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: AUG 25, 2006 2003 22 oz bottle. Pours a very dark black, light tinges of brown/violet around the edges. Big mocha/tan head. Smells of caramel, coffee and port wine? Definitely some hops influences as well, lightly spicy with some cocoa and black pepper notes as well. Flavor is big and assertive. Lots of rich dark coffee mixed with chocolate. Smooth, creamy, low carbonation. There is some note of vinousness, like a hint of port wine, or dark dark grapes. As BBB63 says, it is surprisingly drinkable, yet not light in any way. The hops are quite present, as this is very young, but they are not hugely bitter. Good stuff!

Bottle at Drew-LaPalooza 2004. Small tan head and fine sized bubbles that mostly diminished. Uncarbonated, opaque and a black hue. Malt, coffee and chocolate aroma. Malt and coffee flavor. Smooth palate. Fair lacing.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Rocking Imperial Stout! I loved the aroma here--deeply fruity, grape, and the juice of something else (mango?), but also a plastic quality that throws me back to when I would open Star Wars action figures in the 1970s, this is the cape of Princess Leia straight from the plastic package. The roastiness is subtle in the flavor and I just kept sipping this with enjoyment. Fruitier than other Imperial Stouts, probably not a classic, but it strikes my fancy.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured from a bomber. The body is ultra black and has a beige head with excellent lacing and retention. The aroma is very lactic. Butter creme frosting aroma. :) Some roasted malts but the lactic hides that mostly. The flavor is hugely coffee and dark chocolate. Thereís also a dark fruit present. I suspect that this beer could go bad in the next couple of months.

Nitro @ Strong Ale Fest. Beautiful black color with nice ivory head. Nice roasted malt taste followed by warm, smooth coffee. They ought to put this in those Guinness cans. Yummy!

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
extremely dark brown with a minimal head. the aroma is of burnt chocolate . The flavor is slightly sweet, w/ dried fruit notes. Although the aroma is roasty, the flavor has more sweetness than most imperials. Very nice.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
(22 oz bottle: $5 at Hi-Time Wine Cellars in Costa Mesa, CA) Ooh, wow, the nose is pungently earthy, mulchy, and mushroomy, right up my alley, but itís pretty unusual for the style. That strong, earthy flavor is also the dominant flavor of this brew. What Iím not getting is a strong sweet roastiness that is typical of the style. In fact, itís fairly sour and the palate is bordering on dry. The beer finishes with a bit of roastiness, but itís still almost lost behind the sour earthiness. Very dark brown in color, fully opaque except at the edges, and topped by a small, tan brown that dissipates fairly quickly. So, I donít know what to make of this Imperial Stout. Itís very unusual, and I like the nose and flavor, but what Iím tasting makes we wonder if maybe the bottle is old. Will retry at some point in the future.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Not perfectly black, you can see brown light around the extreme edges, but it's dark enough not to count off for. The head is a nice medium brown soup foam, but thin and quick to fade into a weather pattern. A very rich malty aroma with some fruit aroma. Low hop presence. There's a lot of fig in the flavor. I can almost feel the tiny seeds in the fig preserves my mom makes from the fig tree in our yard next to the cannaa lillies. It's sweet, almost a little too sweet as it edges on cloying. This mild bitterness in the back keeps it just on this side of the line, though. Still, that figgy flavor makes it pretty interesting.

Black color with a very light tan head that fades quickly. Pleasant roasted malt aroma. Usual heavy malt - chocolate flavor. Has a lingering malt aftertaste. Good hop bitterness backing. Smooth, medium to full body beer. Very nice.

Pours black but no head at all. Very smokey flavor along with a soy sauce kick this beer tasted like smoked salmon, which is good, cause I like smoked salmon. The roasty chocolate flavors had trouble showing through the salty soy sauce flavor and smoked finish and a slightly acidic finish showed up. This was pretty nice, very bold and "in your face" kinda brew.
