On tap at the brewpub. Cool find! Pours a jet black color with a small beige head. A huge nose of cocoa and sweet fruit essence. The flavor is big dark fruit, some cocoa, oily, medium to high heat, some motor oil. A huge dark fruit component. Maybe some ash.

On tap @ Brouwer’s. Pours inky black with medium mocha head. Aroma is dark roasted malts. Taste is roasty malts, coffee, piney hops, and a hint of bourbon. Doesn’t taste like the 10.5% that it is. I’d love to see HUB do a standard imperial stout - their 7 grain is really nice too.

Back in Black. Pours black with minimal head. Smell is sweet, licorice, taste is roast and sweeter malt. Rich. Good.

On tap at Apex with mcberko, pours a solid black with a small tan head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malts, vanilla and oak. Flavour of licorice, dark chocolate, roasted malts, vanilla, oak, liqueur and syrup. Full-bodied palate, and quite smokey and roasty. Beautiful.

On tap at Apex in Portland, split with Matts_Property, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla and slight licorice. Flavour of vanilla, licorice, liqueured / brandied fruits and roasted malt. Incredibly silky, syrupy palate with a super complex body. Absolutely delicious.

Comes out of the tap an opaque warm sable with a thick, frothy tan head that leaves some good lacing. Smoky, chocolaty aroma has coffee and toffee undertones. Scrumptious mocha flavor has tones of quality coffee and semi-sweet chocolate. Lively, fizzy, slightly powdery texture leaves an elegant mocha finish. Pity this is a limited release - I feel quite fortunate that I got to drink it.

Draught @ Brouwer’s Café:   Pitch black, thin beige head, sparce lacing.   Heavy oatmeal and sweet pruny nose.   Oh yeah, also some strong roasted malts and lactose.   Wow, that’s some heavy sweet oatish notes.   Also some really sweet dark pitted fruit too.   This one is heavy, sweet, and only good in small doses.   Very strong apple skin.   Smooth, but very sweet.   Body and mouthfeel are really hefty.   Can’t picture this beer being any heavier.   Sweet, fruity, roasty, and a huge dose of oatmeal.   Good stuff, even if bordering on too much.

Draft at Brouwers. Pours a thick chocolatey black with a even creamy tan head that leaves some lacing. Apple, chocolate, light roasted malt under tones. Small tight creamy carbonation with the body to hold it up. Roasty malts, touch of licorice, bitter cocoa and coffee, plenty of abv warmth but too much apple sweetness for my liking and the burn lingers for a bit long. Under attenuated I would say.
