(22oz bomber thanks to bu11zeye) medium orange-amber, soapy offwhite bubbles. Nose of pine, honey, chlorine, chemical, and lemon. Taste of pine, caramel, nice hop/sweet balance, Lemon, but woody, really really nice. Smells weird, but tastes excellent.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at the Pine Box in Seattle, WA.
Pours a cloudy dark copper color with golden amber edges and a 1.5 finger off-white head that quickly settles into a lasting ring. Streaks of lacing left behind.
Earthy floral hop aroma with lots of dank, resinous pine needle character countered by subtle citrus and sweet malt. Rthe hop profile is sort of one dimensional with only fait hits of grapefruit and citrus rind countering the soil-like, earthy pine presence. As it warms, the malt profile comes a bit more toward the forefront but never gets in the way of he hops. Hints of caramel, toffee and biscuit provide sweetness and prevent it from just smelling like a plant.
On the fuller end of medium bodied with a blast of dry, sticky hops that provides a lingering bitterness which dominates the flavor. Very earthy and bitter with tons of grassy pine needle flavor that’s countered by a sweet malt backbone. Hints of caramel, toffee, hazelnut and biscuit give off enough sweetness for balance without hurting the strong hop flavors. Could use a bit more complexity in the hop flavor but overall it’s a nicely balanced hop bomb that’s surprisingly easy to drink considering the high ABV and intense hop character.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Single bottle purchased from Kensington Wine Market on 06/15/2012 in Calgary, AB. Colour: Dark brown with beautiful creamy light brown head. Nose: A gorgeous blend of mustard, hazelnut, medium toasted malt, roasted barley and cracked pepper - all with a caramel drizzle. Taste: Medim-light sweet, medium bitter, medium-light sour. HUGE nutty presence blended with swirling toffee and perfectly bbq’d grain and hop. The high ABV goes nearly un-noticed making it very drinkable. Superb balance throughout! Well done!

650ml brown bottle. From the bottle the beer flows into the glass a deep amber/orange shade, creamy and fairly thick tan cap that constantly sustains itself leaving a very nice beer visually. Big bands of lace add to the eye appeal. Nose has big sweet notes up front from malt - notes of big caramel, dark sugar, some citrus. Taste has thick caramel malts, sweetness is high, its pleasant at first but tires the palate quickly. Trace of citrus hops at the end. Overall a thick and sweet American Strong, has its moments but not worth the extra hefty price tag. HUB does more enjoyable beers at half this beer’s price point.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
650ml bottle pours a rich amber color with a 2 finger white head that leaves some generous lacing on the glass. Aroma is dominated with light fruits and floral notes with some light caramel. Taste is a grapefruit bitterness with a balance of other light fruits and caramel malt to sweeten and a mild alcohol burn in the finish. Medium body with nice carbonation providing a nice mouthfeel. A very well done strong amber ale that is very tasty and recommended for others to try.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: JUN 10, 2012 On tap @ Noble Fir. Pours deep reddish orange. Aroma is candy malts and faint hops. Taste is initially harsh and bitter with big sweet caramel malts on the back. Lots of alcohol here, but it is hidden well by the strong hops. This is nice, overall, but doesn’t have the sweet stickiness that the really good double reds do (see Port Shark Attack). Still, it’s organic, and not bad.

Bottle. Big alcohol. Like an Imperial Amber. A quick twist to open and the beer starts foaming out of the bottle. Dark copper. Fair head despite the aggressiveness of the opening. Woody hop and Ambe nose. Alcohol and wwody hops and more alcohol Ian the flavour.

On tap at the brewpub. Gorgeous deep ruby pour with a thin off-white head. Aroma was citrus and floral hops. A bit of pine resin in the background. Monster hop notes. Flavor was similarly hoppy with a good malt backbone. Beer was sticky. Mouthfeel was a little sticky. Hops just oozed out of this one. Tasted blind I would have guess a Double IPA. nice beer.
