resin, cereal, hay on the nose. hop-forward IPA, no doubt about it. full body, with a sticky texture. an average, middle of the road IPA for me. wouldn’t have it again.

Restrained citrus pine aroma in an amber pour. Tasty hop forward balance with a nice malty body and sustained bitter finish to match. Pretty much a perfect example of the style (US IPA) - but nothing special in the end.

Hopworks’ flagship beer, an organic IPA, from a 50 cl can. Thickly cobweb-lacing, egg-white, moussy head with good edge retention and leaving cloudy patches in the middle, over a cloudy deep orange blonde beer with peachy hue. Extremely fruity bouquet of freshly squeezed orange juice mixed with mango juice, lychee, fresh lemon zest, yellow passion fruit, mandarin, cherimoya, lime blossom, honey, more subtle hints of pear, light pine, red curry, tonic water, rosewater, biscuit. Crisp and vivid onset, a basket of fruit including orange, guava, passion fruit and mango, sweetish and sourish and completely refreshing, in a somewhat sharp and minerally carbonated environment but in this case, this only adds to the refreshment on a hot summer day like today. Supple, juicy malt body ensues, nicely caramelly sweetish and a tad bready, providing more than sufficient structure for the hops, which manifest their bitterness early on only to grow in intensity towards the finish, as expected from an IPA. Tonic water- and wormwood-like, resinous, long bitterness dries the finish as good as completely and still manages to refrain from becoming overly harsh, while the lush exotic aromas of tropical citrus, tropical flowers and tropical spices rise up retronasally, bringing things to an utterly aromatic, beguiling end. What a beauty... Probably among the best organic beers I had so far and certainly a top notch IPA in my book, well-crafted structurally, very generous and offering both drying, thirst-quenching bitterness and sumptuous, exotic fragrance. It may have something to do with the weather - I really could use a good IPA today and I’m a sucker for citrus-forwarded IPAs in general - but this is way better than I expected.

Can at Chipotle. Smells woodsy, pine, fruit, citrus. Tastes a hoppy, twangy, nothing special at all sort. Medium bitterness. Lingering mediocre aftertaste. Average at best.

Sad to interrupt Throw Momma From the Train to crack open another beer but if it doesn’t suck too much perhaps it ain’t a bad thang. The head’s okay, yellow orange body’s okay. I smell the Portlandia brewhouse on this one, crowded on a friday night, long wooden picnic tables inside with hipsters and long beards handling the many taps behind the bar, that chick with all the piercings trying to enjoy all the craft beer like she’s some kind of conoisseur but really just wanting a decent joint and a few shots of vodka to space out on. Those overwrought onion rings from some kinda artisanal batter that really should taste good but are more bland than the kind you ate at the diner last saturday morning at 4am to beat that hangover. All sorts of hops come out when you sip this, fiddling with your iphone while the groups of the uni grads and must-be-seen late 20’s types debate various things like safe spaces and banning everything they don’t agree with. Kind of a bitter finish, like take the peel off that lemon or something. It’s getting crowded and you sampled a few but the vibe of this place is just a little to in your face, not chill as you’d hoped, too many trying too hard to be too much. You finish it off and head down the street to that old irish pub where there’s another IPA, perhaps not as trendy, but the place is filled with old guys and a few old relaxed gals that can still hold a conversation and left their mobile phones at home. You order a round.

Hazy amber beer, good pale cream colour head. Palate is light, semi dry and a good minerally crispness. Light malts, modestly sweet, trace of caramel. Hops are orange, orange peel, light spice and grapefruit. Tangy bitterness before an airy finish. Citric peel dominated IPA. Nice.

Can. Golden, cloudy, average and mostlyy diminishing head. Moderate, malty and lightly sweetish - sweetish aroma, light - some caramel and some tropical fruitiness, citrus/grapefruit hoppyness. Body is medium, malty and lightly sweetish - sweetish flavor, light - some caramel and some tropical fruitiness, some citrus/grapefruit hoppyness. Finish is average, malty and lightly sweetish, light - somecaramel and light - some tropical fruitiness, citrus - some grapefruit hoppyness. OK IPA but could be drier and with less caramel. For those who like their IPA sweetish and with grapefruit.

Just an ok Ipa. Well balanced, but not particularly interesting. Pours an ugly yellow with a white head. Smells of pineapple, pine and tropical fruit. Taste is very basic. Had on tap at the brewery.
