On draught at Hopworks. A perfect combination: Abominable Winter Ale and Bourbon barrels! Wait for it each year.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
2012 version on tap @ Chuck’s 85th. Pours murky dark golden with thin lacy white head. Aroma is a hint a malt, spicy hops, and big boozy whiskey. Taste is thin light caramel malt and malty whiskey. Most of the hops are obscured here. Love the barrel aging, and the whiskey, but much of the charm of abominable is lost here. Super thin body for the abv.

Hmmm. A tough one to rate for me. Pours a darkish copper color with a small white head. A huge bursting nose of heat and bourbon. Like a shot. The flavor is also a bit harsh for me, I like BA beers, but this has some solvent like flavors and huge heat, but also nice caramel, vanilla, wood, sweet sugary malts. Good overall. Very hot.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Had on draft at the brewery. The aroma is spicy, vanilla, woody. The flavor is dominated by the barrel, coconut, vanilla, toffee, big sweet malts. This is huge.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at Beer Revolution. It pours a bright copper orange with an off white head. The aroma is awesome. Dried apricot, tropical fruit with huge caramel, whiskey, vanilla and wood. The flavor has peaches, papaya, brown sugar, caramel, vanilla, alcohol and wood near the finish. Oily palate. Subdued carbonation really lets the flavors shine. Nice one.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Nose is big and fruity and hoppy just like the base beer. Just a subtle hint of oak and bourbon. Pours golden with a light creamy head. The flavor starts with a soft blast of bourbon and oak and then segues into a big fruity citrus hoppiness, nice and fruity, tropical and a light bourbon finish. Light oak dryness as well. Nice treatment that leaves the bad ass base beer at the forefront. Good shit.

Aroma – Strong ale aroma with good malt and a slight fruit background.
Appearance – Dark Amber in color, little to no head and clear.
Flavor – A very strong flavor this was a great beer. Loved the oak and bourbon flavor this beer gave off.
Palate – Great Mouthfeel, good texture with a dry finish.
Overall – Deep rich oak and bourbon flavor this was one of the best beers for the day.

Tap at HUB. Poured a brilliant amber/copper in color with low head. Very similar to the abominable (since it’s essentially the same beer) Slight sweetness with more alcohol notes and spices. Bourbon flavor very faint. A great beer.

At 2007 Winter Ale Festival in Portland, Oregon--Poured a murky orange and tawny body with a medium-sized lacing whitish head. Musty earthy fruity robust nose. Well carbonated and nicely rounded. Finished creamy and bitter. Very subtle bourbon flavors. Very enjoyable!
