5000 (6031) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - APR 16, 2014
Bottle:   Black, moderate frothy sandy head, fairly nice lacing.   Soft graham cracker and hop start, followed by roastiness, biscuit, strong maltiness, with a light to moderate hop bite.   Smooth, fairly rich.   Has a strong pine background, yet its not bitter.   Full bodied.   Solid RIS.   Bigger than most.

Pitch black pour with a fading dark brown head. Roast malts with a back drop of stone fruit. Sweet flavor throughout that fades to a bitter coffee finish. Not as smooth as I wanted it to be.

22oz bottle at Brewforia, Eagle. Black and viscous. Small fleeting tan head. Lots of sweet roasted malt aroma. The residual sweetness is not quite balanced by the minimal IBUs. Needs to be a little lower FG or another 25 IBUs....or both. Especially considering that it is nearly %10

22oz in Seattle. Gorgeous rich black-brown tall foam. Lactic sweet malt. Strong alc note, warming, but very full flavor. chocolate milk. Rich like much stronger RIS. Licorice, grape and mocha. Very interesting, tasty and drinkable big RIS. Cool.

Bottle from Beer junction west Seattle. Lots of dark roast and chocolate. Slight bit of coffee. No lingering taste good or bad on this one. Was a good buy but maybe not something I would have again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

22 picked up last week at the COOP... Finally getting around to it tonight (Very cool label)... Standard black brew... dark brown head rises up about 1/2" and falls back leaving nice lace sheets. Nose shows bigger dark chocolate with a little milk chocolate... "big roastiness" isnít really present, instead a light coffee element with warmth... The aromas are surprisingly subdued... soft all around, but well integrated (if that makes sense). Flavor has some dark fruitiness that makes me think fig and dried cherries... a bit of brewerís licorice (I donít appreciate the anise flavor).. "RIS" flavors are there, but weird and not focused on what most breweries target... sweeter than most mid palate.. almost a melted bittersweet chocolate essence... finish drops off a little too quick. Body is nice medium/full ... carbonation is about dead on. Again... This one is a little weird compared to what I was expecting, but it is unique and I guess that is a positive... Nothing wrong, just unique.

mcberko (5372) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 17, 2014
22 oz. bottle, pours black with some amber hues and a small tan head. Aroma is complex, with lots of chocolate, roasted malt and coffee. Flavour is similar, with a very complex profile, with notes of chocolate and roasted malt. Extemely full-bodied, with a finish of roast and chocolate. Excellent beer.

Draft - Coffee new intense dark chocolate. Jet black with a brown thin head. Espresso, chocolate and liquorice. Big creamy body, long finish but booze is kept in check.
