Our Estate NW Style Ale uses both Willamette and Cascade hops grown exclusively for Hopworks on San Juan Island. These hops impart a fresh, crisp and stunning fruitiness, coupled perfectly with aromatic floral herbaceousness. A rich malt body and warming finish are followed by a subtle, balancing hop bitterness. 19.8 degrees Plato, 80 IBU.

bottle. medium-dark amber. ester-heavy nose of molding fruit rind, soap, flowers / potpourri, cream and maraschino cherry reduction. full body, flabby texture, relatively low acid, excessively sweet malt combined with strong yeast easters and fruit pulp hop flavor with noticeable alcohol. a big mess.

On tap at hub with Carla. Pours ruby red with frothy white foam. Smells of sweet cherries. Tastes very sweet (almost syrupy) with lots of malts and a striking amount of bitterness.

San Diego Strong Ale Fest 2010. Clear amber color/ white head. grassy, spicy hop aromas with caramel. medium bodied. Nice caramel, pine sap, floral, spicy flavors. Yet another tasty hoppy brew from these guys.

UPDATED: JAN 16, 2013 Tap @ Noble Fir, bomber from WB. Re-rating due to an apparent change in the beer, new comments in parentheses. Clear amber pour (Hazy light gold pour) with a short white head leaving light (moderate) lace. Heavy body with moderate carbonation (medium body with light, fine carbonation). Sweet medium-roast malt with earthy notes and some citrus hops in the finish (Light herbal and citrus hops, tea, light toast and grapefruit). Not as smooth as an English IPA would be, but neither is it balanced like an American IPA/APA (- which is probably why they’ve gone with ASA). This is the type of IPA which tends to the sweet/umami side more than the highly-hopped style of a Green Flash or Pliny, which I prefer. (Better than the first time I had it, but not a strong ASA).

Great caramel color. Serious citrus hops on the nose, balanced (almost) with caramel malts. Far more malt in the flavor, and a tasty effort... but this is making me realize their hop varieties are just too acerbic.

On tap at HUB. Great flowery multi-hops aroma, resiny, with a strong undertone of caramel and leather. clear dark amber with a thin off white head, smooth but not that aromatic in the mouth. Malts more present on the flavor side, scale just barely on the hop side. clean finish, alcohol well hid.

English Double IPA?? Shouldn’t this be one part English and one part American? Alas. Clear copper, small white head, earthy leafy hoppy aroma. Big and earthy with the hops, not really what I would call pine, more of a dried leafy and gritty abrasive punch. Good times.

Draft at San Diego Strong Ale Fest 2010. Slightly hazy golden pour, white head. Citrus, a little bit earthy, grapefruit, hops, and bready malt. Decent.
