Bomber served in a tulip. Beautiful dense cola pour topped by a large frothy light brown head. Great retention and lacing. Piney and floral hop aroma along with some chocolate malt. Roasty bitter sweet flavor. Medium body, good carbonation, creamy mouthfeel and a charred, bitter finish with sticky resin that lasts.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft, Brouwer’s. Poured black with a thin beige head. Aroma is grassy and earthy hops primarily. Flavor is lightly toasty malt with more of the grassy, earthy hop character. There’s also a bit of a lemon peel character, put mostly the hops are more on the herbal side. Very dry and bitter on the finish.

Draft from 16 Tons Taphouse, Eugene. Pours dark brown/black, off-white head. Aroma sharp and resinous, lively body, not too malty. Very crisp and clean, compared to some more malty versions of the style. Finish is almost a bit sweet and slightly roasty. Very enjoyable, especially for the price.

Black pour with a finger of head. Webs of lacing. Citrus aroma - hops, some coffee. Gave it a bit to warm and was surprised at how balanced this was - Hoppy bitterness with roasted malt, a bit of black coffee, under-ripe Grapefruit, Organic grains (think that smell when you step into an organic grocery store). Medium bodied, slightly lower carbonation. Resiny mouthfeel. Good stuff.

Bottle with Carla. Pours dark brown with tan foam. Smells very bitter with grassy notes. Tastes bitter with plant matter overtones and hint of roasted barley.

Thanks Kevin for sharing this brew!
A- Body is an opaque dark brown hue that pours with a foamy 2 finger off white head. Plenty of lacing is left down the glass.
S- Nose is very earthy, herbal, grassy, and mossy with a hint of roasted malt in the background.
T- Taste is very similar to the smell. This is a hoppy beer indeed-but more the medicinal, herbal remedy, hippie, going green type hop than the bright american hop profile that I am used to. A very faint roasted malt backbone is there-but the highlight here is the hops.
M- Carbonation is soft with a medium weight body.
D- This is probably more earthy than unearthly. Certainly a different, atypical type of IPA. If I was into the more earthy hop I would love this brew-but I like my hoppy beers bright or floral. Still a decent beer overall.

Roasted malt aroma - dark chocolate, espresso and piney hops. Medium bodied, roasted characteristics, medium hop finish. Finish is lingering bitter with a touch if lemon. This is a good beer, but I’ve had better stylistically, and a style I’m growing quite fond of.

Black body, creamy an head, aroma is mocha chocolate coffee with some fresh west coast hops, flavor is big malts, thick caramel, chucks of chocolate, some deep roast, a wide hop flavor and a hint of smoke, an amazing ale, one of the best beers I’ve had in a long time, really great stuff!

Bomber. More dark brown than black in appearance along with an inch of foamy tan head. Lots of ripe citrus and floral hops in the aroma in addition to roast malt and chocolate toward the end. Strong herbal hops bitterness leads off the taste followed by some grapefruit, mint and pine. The malt flavors are burnt and roasty with bittersweet chocolate and espresso highlights. Mildly creamy mouthfeel with strong carbonation and more bitter roastiness in the finish. Nice blend of Pacific Northwest hops varieties and roasted malt flavors.

My favorite beer at NAOBF ’09. Its dark, superbly hopped into an earthy drink. good ABV and the resin qualtiy just lasts. When I can taste the beer in my nose, then its a good one.
