Pours very dark brown with nice off-white head. Mid range hoppy aroma. Roasty middle with dry finish. OK - a ways to go before its the Stone Self-Righteous.

Dark soda looking pour from bottle with a thin head. Aroma is rye and earthy. Taste is slightly bitter, with notes of herbs, nuts and hay. Complex and interesting.

Black pour with a finger of head. Webs of lacing. Citrus aroma - hops, some coffee. Gave it a bit to warm and was surprised at how balanced this was - Hoppy bitterness with roasted malt, a bit of black coffee, under-ripe Grapefruit, Organic grains (think that smell when you step into an organic grocery store). Medium bodied, slightly lower carbonation. Resiny mouthfeel. Good stuff.

Originally reviewed: 3/2/10. Poured into a pint glass. Pours a limitless black. No light gets through. A gorgeous tan head caps it off like the top of a milkshake. Excellent retention; leaves lots of sticky lace and webbing. This is a really pretty beer. Big powerful pine resin scents burst out to the nose. Citrus zest and some grass in there as well. Great smooth and creamy body. This one sits a little heavy. Very bitter at the onset with lots of hop presence. Sharp burnt toast on the backend. A little charring. I wasn’t sure what to expect with this one, but I was pleasantly surprised. Great beer!

Pours a lovely deep molasses black with a brief brown head. Earthy light hop aroma. Slightly sweet brown ale with a very earthy taste, lightly biting hop bitterness. Good carb, thinnish body. Quaffable, but slightly odd earthy taste.

Single bottle purchased from Co-op Liqour Store in Calgary, AB on 05/25/2011. Colour: Extremely dark red with hints of brown and low white head. Nose: Maple laced coffee, chai spice, yeast. Hops are abundant and full of fresh zest. Taste: Medium-light sweet, medium bitter, light sour. Tea leaves, and lots of them. Earl Grey? Some buttered toast pops its head in to say hi. Touch of soap. Hops are consistent. End trails off characterwise and leaves solid bitterness.

Bomber served in a tulip. Beautiful dense cola pour topped by a large frothy light brown head. Great retention and lacing. Piney and floral hop aroma along with some chocolate malt. Roasty bitter sweet flavor. Medium body, good carbonation, creamy mouthfeel and a charred, bitter finish with sticky resin that lasts.

Draft from 16 Tons Taphouse, Eugene. Pours dark brown/black, off-white head. Aroma sharp and resinous, lively body, not too malty. Very crisp and clean, compared to some more malty versions of the style. Finish is almost a bit sweet and slightly roasty. Very enjoyable, especially for the price.

Draft, Brouwer’s. Poured black with a thin beige head. Aroma is grassy and earthy hops primarily. Flavor is lightly toasty malt with more of the grassy, earthy hop character. There’s also a bit of a lemon peel character, put mostly the hops are more on the herbal side. Very dry and bitter on the finish.

My favorite beer at NAOBF ’09. Its dark, superbly hopped into an earthy drink. good ABV and the resin qualtiy just lasts. When I can taste the beer in my nose, then its a good one.
