(22oz bottle, courtesy of AmEricanbrew) Pours a mahogany body with a medium beige head. Aroma of roasted grain, grapefruit, and herbs. Flavor of roasted malt, citrus, grass, caramel malt, and pine with a moderately bitter finish.

22 oz. bottle from Whole Foods in Bellevue. Nice dark brown, almost black, appearance. This beer has a thin, and yet, wispy head. A little roast is complimented by a nice orange citrus hop aroma. The aroma is quite pungent, and nice. Very roasted at first, but the roast is soon dominated by the hop flavor, which actually has a pine taste, instead of a citrus taste. The beer is rather dry, and the roast mixes well with the aforementioned hop flavor. This has a bit of a milky flavor, as well. This is pretty good, and has a nice lingering bitterness, which pleases me.

Draft at the Issaquah Brewhouse. Pours jet black with a loose tan head. Big sweet pine and candied orange nose...sugars coming very much from the hops here but still presenting an overall effect of sweetness with very little pith or bitterness present. Creamy medium body with lively carb. Roasty toasty mid-palate with lots of sweet hop oil above that, washing out into a candied fruit finish. Has to be the sweetest black ipa I’ve tried. Pleasant, but far from the expected dryness, roastiness, and bitterness.

Pours not really black but more dark brown with ruby edges. Aroma of burnt malt, hops. taste is nice, it has a lot of bitterness, some hop related, some burnt or ash flavor. Medium body, lots of carbonation but it’s not prickly.

Cracking open the bottle unleashes loads of west coast hops - grapefruit being the big player. In the glass its a clear dark brown with a touch of red around the edges. Thin, but lingering head. Aroma remains the same (good). Taste. Opens very IPA-ish - doing this blindfolded I wouldn’t guess it was dark. But part way through, and mostly on the finish. there is a bit of a roasty kick that comes in. All in all though I would like a bit more of a roasty punch to this. And maybe a touch more body.

650ml bottle pours reddish brown in color with a finger and a half of light beige head that leaves some decent lacing on the glass. Aroma is dark roasted malts with an explosion of citrusy hops. Taste is a little more subdued with dark roasted malt sweetness and citrusy hop bitterness with a bit of smokiness. This is a really nice IPA with some decent body and carbonation leaving a decent impression on the taste buds.

Mahogany with a thin white head. Some pine on the nose and other green aromatics. Medium bodied and showing good balance. Would like more complexity from the roasted malts. This shows more like a well made typical NW IPA.
