Black body, creamy an head, aroma is mocha chocolate coffee with some fresh west coast hops, flavor is big malts, thick caramel, chucks of chocolate, some deep roast, a wide hop flavor and a hint of smoke, an amazing ale, one of the best beers I’ve had in a long time, really great stuff!

Port from a 650 ml bottle. Dark brown colour medium white head about 2 fingers high. I smell hints of roast malt and some creamy chocolate. Tastes a little bit like a porter without the coffee. Has a pretty smooth taste at first, but leaves a grainy charred taste behind, that begs you to take another sip. Kind of reminds me of the slightly charred taste of something grilled with coal.its minute and there but it’s quite nice. Might recommend it with spicy food.

Poured from 1pint 6fl oz bottle. Dark brown with beige head. Medium citrus hop aroma with slight roast malt and a little lactosey chocolate hint. Same taste with a bit stronger resiny hop flavour leaving a bitter finish with a touch of chocolate.

On Tap at the River Room, Whole Foods, Boise. Clear dark redish brown. Dense tan head. Muted faint aromas of light west coast citrusy hops and a touch of toasted malt. Flavor is definiately down a notch from standard CDAs in its sessionability but it i still and nice example of the style.

On tap at the brewpub - Pours fairly dark with a tan head. The aroma has roasted malt and tropical hops. The body is fairly full with soft carbonation. The flavor begins with roast, coffee, pine and tropical fruits. The finish has some citrus and the roast is not as obvious. Good black IPA.

light brown, slight lime nose with toast and woody hop character. Earthy front, sweet, has some mellow haselnuss character, with toasted almonds, bitter chocolate. Sweeter interpretation, leaning towards the old India brown idea.

Draught @ Hopworks, Portland, OR

Roasty, nutty and grassy black IPA. A bit too much on the stouty side though.

On tap at Alibi Room in Vancouver. Wow! It’s like a hoppy stout is the best I can describe. Big bitter hops with big roasted malts. Medium lingering bitter malted aftertaste. Nice!

Bottle shared at the Foothills bottle share... thanks for setting it up, Mike! Nice balance in this one. Moderate chocolate sweetness with the right amount of pine sting. Really drinkable.

On draught at Hopworks. Deep black with light tan head. Aroma is citrus, dark malt, and roasted smokiness. Taste is dark chocolate, citrus, roasted dark malt. Really well balanced; not too bitter not too sweet. Finishes with a hoppy, toasted character.
