3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Ughsmash (6669) - Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA - DEC 5, 2010
Thanks to Brandon for the bomber! Poured clear, medium brown with a sticky cap of beige head. The aroma picked up moderately-roasted coffee paired with an array of wet, earthy grains.. I could pick out the spelt, but not much else.. the coffee drove, and was quite enjoyable. The coffee also led the flavor department, again picking up dry-roasted, earthy grains.. touches of buttery cocoa in there.. dry finish with more satisfying coffee. Medium-bodied at most on the palate.. dry and grainy, but that really worked for this beer.. an easy-drinkin’, yet sufficiently complex stout.

Tap at HUB. Dark, good head, and tons of black patent in the flavor. Almost too much for me, but a nice change from a middle of the road stouts.

Tap @ Cafe Vita in Portland, first brew of the trip. Pours black with a nice tan head. Nose is sweet and roasty and quite malty. Taste is rich and smooth with nice notes of chocolate malt.

Bottle purchased at uber... Pours a dark cola pour with reddish edges and a thinnish white head... Aroma of rich roast, lighter coffee, and cocoa. Somewhat nice and somewhat of a dark fruit background... Flavors have a touch of an improvement with more of a coffee roast profile. Medium bodied with a nice flavor profile overall.

22 oz. from cellar. Unknown vintage. Not quite as full-bodied as I’d expect. But all of those malts seem to combine to give it an interesting malt profile. Unfortunately a lot of it gets lost with all the espresso. Still tasty. Not sure it needed to sit in the cellar so long...

Bottle thanks to Ben, shared with others! Poured a near black with a tan head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma was full of strong coffee with slight roasted malt and dark grain backing. Flavor was full of espresso with roasted malt and dark chocolate coming out a bit in the finish. Wish the coffee note would have been more reserved to show off the seven grains.

Bomber. Pours a clear deep red-brown with a tan head and minimal lace. Strong coffee nose. Dark-roasted malt body of medium weight. Aromas of dark chocolate, espresso bitterness, earth and smoked oak. Minimal sweetness with a short, astringent, bitter finish.

Callared 6-8 months. Cola black with a finger of mocha coloured head. Aroma of dark chocolate covered coffee beans, espresso, cocoa. Bitter coffee up front (think cold blackcoffee), cereal grains, oats, dark chocolate. A bit thinner than I would like but the carbonation is right. The taste kind of reminds me of that smell you get when you walk into an organic grocery store.

Solid black with a large beige head that leaves heavy lacing. Aroma is fresh cut grass, coffee, hint of liquorice. Taste is coffee, vanilla, chocolate milk powder. Medium bodied, long coffee finish with a roasty bitterness.

Poured a beautiful dark brown from a bottle. Thin tan head, strong toasty aromas. The coffee really shines through and is nicely balanced by the maltiness. I have yet to find a beer that had too much coffee, and there may not be such a thing. I will definitely come back to this one.
