500ml bottle. Dark brown with good creamy off-white to beige head. Dark malt, roasty aroma, some sweetness, toffee. Bit monotonous taste, but a harmonical integration of roast, bitter and sweet notes, dryer finish. Very smooth.

Tasted this in The Three Judges, Glasgow in February 2009. Cask, handpump dispense. Black ruby in colour with a open bubbled white head. Sweet treacle toffee in the short aroma. Oily texture in the mouthfeel and poor lacing. Dark malts give a rich maltloaf base and strong overtones of coffee beans, bitter chocolate and sweet treacle. Dusty hop resins give a metallic tang to the short aftertaste. Finish is malty and dry with oak cask notes mixing it with roasted walnuts. A moreish stout this and well recommended.

(Cask at Market Porter, London Bridge, London, 18 May 2011) Dark brown colour, almost black, with frothy beige head. Malty, roasted nose with dark bread, raisins and coffee. Malty, roasted taste with notes of dark bread, raisins, prunes, roasted nuts, hints of coffee and chocolate. Some coffee bitterness coming through in the finish. Slightly more than medium body, with a touch of sweetness in the finish. Nice one

[cask at Cloisters, Edinburgh] Pours very dark, opaque. Some flecks of redness running through it. Thick off-white head at first, but reduces pretty quickly to a lacing. Aromas of chocolate malt, dark roastiness, fruit. On the palate after the dark, fruity malt flavours it becomes more of a coffee finish. Very drinkable stout [13102010]

On cask at the Bow bar. Pours a mostly black color with a medium beige head. The aroma is sweet toffee, light caramel and berries. The flavor is similar; a sweet mix of caramel and toffee, some light bitterness, raisins and berries. Nice.
