COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hornbeer Barleywine is a golden coloured beer with high carbonation and a bit of extra hops making it fresh to drink even if it is a strong thing of 10% alcohol. Barleywine is a desert beer that should be served in small glasses, preferably wine glasses, in order to be able to enjoy the handsome colour and the carbonation bubbles rising from the bottom of the glass. We have brewed our barleywine on 5 different barley malts, wheat malt, sugar, hops, yeast and water. The beer has refermented on the bottle - therefore, it might have some yeast bottom residues.

Bottle from Høkeren, Copenhagen. Pours a deep nut brown clear body with a medium off-white head. Very nice. Aroma is figs, caramel, raisins, smooth sweet malts and hints of vanilla and syrup. Taste is deep malty tones, caramel, syrup, hints of biscuits, raisins and toffee. Bitter finish, but otherwise it comes across as a tad bit sweet. Actually, after half a bottle it gets pretty cloying, even for me who normally has a sweet tooth or two. Palate, however, is wonderful: silky smooth with perfect carbonation. A rather good barley wine all in all, but far from top notch in this heavyweight class.

Rating #735, bottle from SuperBest, Nakskov. Starts out as a brown beer with a nice head. Aroma is quite powerful with loads of yeast, berries and malts. Flavor has apricot, berries, raisin, malts, yeast, sweetness, spices. Well balanced amount of hops both spice-like and regarding bitterness. Some caramel in the finish as well. Palate is soft and creamy - nice and easy palate.

En väldigt bra Barley Wine. Rund och fin i smaken, välbalanserad. Len med smak av karamell och kola. Bra gjort.

From bottle at Ølfestival 2012. Clear dark copper with a small white head. Aroma of toffee, dark fruit, malt and some notes of grass. The taste was sweet and enjoyable. Some notes of alcohol but nothing that bothered.

Botled. Pours clear amber with a nice off-white head. Fair lacing. Nose of caramel, ripe fruits as well as pine needles. Sweet flavor with toasted caramel, overripe fruits, spicy notes and some hops too. Medium to full bodied, creamy to oily texture and soft carbonation. Ends up slightly bitter and with alcohol notes. A quite nice brew.

Draught @ Ølfestival København 2012
Aroma is sweet with exotic fruits and some raspberries. Flavour is sweet with hops, some ripe fruits and fruit sugar. Palate becomes sticky after some sips. Rather typical barley wine done in American way.

Draught @ Ølfestival Kobenhavn.
Pours clear copper color with small head. Aroma of ripe fruits, caramel, mild toffee notes, pine needles and some mild grass notes. Flavor of exotic fruits, caramel, some toffee and mild alcohol at the end. More like a DIPA with the hoppy fruits.
