COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Quite smokey aroma but noticable hints of dried fruit, dark malt and hops as well. Taste wise it is very well ballanced. Smoked malt (not too much), dried fruit, bitter chocolate and coffee, hops. Beautifull

Tasted from the tap at the Barcelona Beer festival (13/03/2015). Pours black colour with a medium foamy and creamy beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, red fruits, vainilla and chocolate. Taste is medium sweet with presence of licorice and chocolate. Aftertaste is great. Well balanced beer. Next one please!

Bottle (500 ml). Best Before 17-12-2022.

Appearance: Black with a tall thick creamy brown head and good lacing.

Aroma: Roasted malts, resin, ashes, smoke, vanilla, molasses, alcohol and spices. Nothing is overpowering.

Taste: A bit less balanced than the aroma. The ashes and smoke takes more place (a bit too much). Sweetness level is moderate to medium. Thee’s also coffee, resin, molasses, black liquorice, moderate spiciness and moderate roasted bitterness.

Palate: Medium to full body. Medium carbonation. Oily, but also fluffy and airy mouthfeel. Ashy and roasted finish with a mild lingering molasses sweetness.

Overall: A great looking stout like most Hornbeer RIS (and european RIS generally) with a nice mouthfeel. Balance isn’t bad, but it’s a bit too ashy for my liking. Tasty.

Bottle. Pours black, with an enormous creamy mocha head. Aroma is sweet, smoky malts, with coffee, cocoa and wooden barrels, as well as vanilla and tobacco. Full, creamy body, with soft carbonation. Flavour is sweet roasted malts, with muscovado, lactose and coffee, as well as a fruity bitterness from dark chocolate, tobacco and wood.

500 ml bottle from Bieropholie, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. BB 30 08 2021.

App.: Deep brown-black with a decent light mocha head. Aroma: Rick molasses, dark chocolate, smokiness, quite dark, dank and peppery, there is a pervasive bright note (not infection) that I can’t place, quite deep and rich. Palate: Medium-full body, relaxed carbonation, syrupy and viscous. Flav.: Molasses, smoke, dark chocolate, the overriding notes are a kinda medicinal herb (eucalyptus?) and alcohol; quite dark, still peppery, odd due to the medicinal thing; dry with fairly big bitterness, warming (bordering on stinging) alcohol and a long, mouth-coating dark malt finish.

Some familiar smells/flavours with some unexpected twists and turns.

50cl bottle. Pours pitch black wityh a thick uneven bubbly dark beige head. Very beautiful in the glass. Aroma is roasted malts, bitter coffee, peat, light acidic note. Taste is strong roastiness, coffee, bitter chocolate, light acidity again. Good bitter aftertaste with ground coffee and roasted notes. Thick oily mouthfeel, full body, light carbonation. Outstanding beer, not overly complex but perfectly balanced. Loved it.
