COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Pours a deep black color with a thick, creamy, light brown head. Pleasant aroma of roasted malt and resinous hops. The flavor is quite solid with its resinous hops, roasted malt, moderate sweetness and lasting bitterness. The body is medium to full with a creamy texture and medium carbonation. This hoppy imperial stout is a pleasure to sip, I wouldn’t mind having it again, and again.

(Rating #3944)

My Bottom Line :
Roasted malts, clove-y phenolics, coniferous hops and blackberry fruitiness coalesce, while biscuity cereals and resinous bitterness join forces to conclude this elegant Imperial Stout.

Further Personal Perceptions :
-A healthy head of foam diminishes into the pure blackness.
-The hop bitterness adequately balances out the finish.
-Caramel is also tasted, even though it is not as prominent as other examples of the style.
-A lick of alcohol blends in nicely.
-This is not your typical super intense Imperial Stout; it is rather drinkable for its size and does not rely solely on residual sugars to impress the tastebuds.
-The nose could show more depth.
-The 1st half of the flavor profile is not as appealing as the 2nd half.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large darn brown frothy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt with dry notes is OK. Taste is also a mix between some dry roasted malt with light coffee notes and subtle unrefined grain notes. Body is quite full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. I though this was OK but there something in the dry aftertaste (I have a hard time putting my hand on it) that wasn’t too my liking.

UPDATED: AUG 7, 2012 Draught @ 3 Små Rum on September 26. Pours black with a thick mocha head. Smell is slightly sweet with hints of roasted malts and coffee. Taste is rather sweet and dominated by smoked malts. Aftertaste is peaty with some coffee. The hops leaves you with a dry taste in your mouth.

Tap. Pours smooth black with a thick short head. Slightly roasty aroma with a hint of chocolate. Taste chocolate with the alcohol ever so slightly pressing through, but in a good way. Not Bad.

A dense tan head settles over the blackness. Heacy dark chocolate roast leaves a fair room to tartish, agreeable fruitiness covering a rather broad range - all kinds of berries, figs, blueberry pancakes. Meanwhile, the malts display an interesting smoky side, adding to the product’s depth. Desserty palate, not necessarily the thickest, but smooth and well-rounded with love handles at the right place. A fair bitterness develops from the roasted malts, bringing an espresso touch the the hoppy, cedary, floral finish. Really well done - fruity enough to be complex and hoppy without any acrid bitterness well showcasing round, desserty malts.

Bouteille. Vraiment classique 7/10
