4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from Vinmonopolet, Kvadrat. Pours pitch black with a very big creamy tanned head. Aroma of peated and smoked malts, tar, liquorice and hard roasted coffee, sure inviting one. Taste is smooth, loaded with peated smoke, heavy malty body, resiny and minty hops towards the smooth lingering finish. Very good IS in my book

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Single from the LCBO with a best before date 30 08 2023. Pours real dark brown colour with a big mocha-brown head, great retention and lots of sticky foam lace. Mild roasted malt aromas at first, but turns into something bad at one point. Something like wet socks and maybe some metal. Thankfully, this goes away and some nice butterscotch notes and coffee blend in with the burnt malt. Oily and slick mouthfeel, medium to full bodied. Lots going on in the flavours with some nice bitterness from the grassy hops, covering the roasted malts. Hints of licorice, chocolate, coffee and light alcohol. No burning though. Too bad, not getting the peaty malts talked about in the description.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draught at Janoinen Lohi, Helsinki. A black color with a medium-sized dense head. Aroma has strong roasty notes, intense but not overpowering, with tar and some dark chocolate and rye pudding. Taste displays a strong malt character with variety. Initial light sweetness fades into a robust roasty notes with smoke and tar. Balancing bitterness appears in the finish. The palate is round, full-bodied and smooth. Very intense in taste but wonderfully balanced, black magic indeed.
