Drunk to celebrate my rating number 22,800. Bottled. A pitch black beer with a huge very dark brown head. The aroma has notes of rhum, chocolate, roasted malt, alcohol, caramel, and wood. The flavor very sweet with notes of alcohol, roasted malt, burnt wood, caramel, rhum, and some chocolate, leading to a dry woody, roasted, and alcoholic finish.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Marheb (415) - Montréal, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 19, 2012

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 77ships (734) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - DEC 4, 2011
50 cl. bottle shared @ friend’s house – purchased at Beer Planet – split & poured into rum glasses – A: solid black with a brown head – S: very sweet, syrup-like, cough syrup mixed with dark caramel malts, molasses, touch of chocolate – T: slightly roasted dark malts but never the less still very sweet, molasses, brown sugar a go-go, cough syrup, wood, touch bitterness in the aftertaste & most of all lots of sweet rum in here, rather tangible in the alcohol department but the sweet, sticky molasses rum nature of this is quite lovely - B: somewhat sticky & oily, more carbonated than you would expect it to be, definitely lively carbonation, nice sweet one
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 MartinT (6146) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - NOV 25, 2011
My Bottom Line :
This engaging Imperial Stout develops wooden notes alongside roasted cereals and molasses in a lean, healthy mouthfeel.
Further Personal Perceptions :
-A slice of coffee-colored foam tops the impenetrable darkness.
-This is drier than expected, with plenty of malt flavors (not just residual sugars).
-The flavor display is quite simple (and elegant) for a brew which lists so many ingredients. Coffee, spices, rum and smoked malt were all used parsimoniously, it seems. Good on them.
-Blackberry fruitiness appears in the finish.
-Alcohol is expertly hidden.
-Carbonation is lively enough to make the sugars feel light, even if there are a few viscous pockets here and there.
Bottle.

(Rating #4028)

Bottle - 500ml. Pours an opaque black body with low carbonation and a good brown foamy/creamy head. Nice, complex malty/hoppy aroma with roasty and chocolate hints. Alcohol is perfectly hidden. Taste carries rhum and woody notes. Ends with a warming bitter/roasty finish. Good stuff.
