4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 JensenTaster (1719) - DENMARK - APR 14, 2009
(on bottle) Pitch black, beige rim and with a huge aroma of everything roasted, with a whif of vanilla. The carbonation is soft and perly at the same time, niiice. Has a good woodyness, that acidic and dusted feel, of a barrel aged beer. The rum? Must be there somewhere, never got a grib of it, but this beer has the right level of complexity to have many mixed flavours, without any being too much or to flat. Lingers for...ever. I´m very impressed with this being beer of the yeah 2008; the broader mass of danish beergeeks really made a good choice this year.

Bottle. Pitch black colour with a dense creamy tan head. Sweet roasty aroma with coffe and dark rum notes. Bit thin on the mouthfeel for an Imperial Stout. Flavour is sweet roasted malt, liqourice, chocolate and sweet rum. Some dark fruit as well. Again a great beer from Hornbeer.
4.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 JanVittrup (244) - København V, DENMARK - MAR 13, 2009
Not much of a head, pitch black liquid.
Aroma limited due to limited bubbles.
Coffee, rum. Builds symphonically through the mouth. Bitter, but not a pronounced after taste.
It swells over the tongue, bubblinh and tingling. You have the sensation that it is thick or oily, but somehow the bitterness triggers mouthwatering so it never just flows through.
Purchased in Barley Wine for 50dkr (50cl).
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 after4ever (5294) - Brier, Washington, USA - MAR 7, 2009
500. Thanks, Maria! Wow, this is a little diamond in the rough for sure. Jet black. Dense, creamy burnt tan head. Huge roasty coffee and rum and chocolate nose. Sharp, fruity, boozey, but not unpleasant. Creamy medium body. Tons of roast, coffee, and beautiful dark flavors melding gorgeously with the sweet rum notes. Very much an inspired creation.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 jesperhammer (2221) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - MAR 3, 2009
Black with some head.
Very smoky, dark flavors, a lot of liquerice. Where is the rum?
A bit to sweet, alcohol level is OK. Very good beer. I sould have liked a bit more hoppy bitternes, but really a godt beer.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Knudsen (31) - DENMARK - FEB 20, 2009
Nice and special brew. Notes of vanila, chocolate, dried fruits. I think there are missing some rum notes and a little more bitterness.
