Flaske fra Høkeren, best før 270619: sort som natten, med højt sjokolademousse på toppen i mitt Duvel-glass:. Aroma like forførerisk som en jamaicansk ballettdanserinne. Enormt fyldig som negerkongen selv, og med en kompleks smak av kaffe, vanilje, solbær, molasse og andre syndigheter. 11% merkes ikke ennå, men de kommer nok. Livet er ikke det værste man har...

Pours pitch black with a toffee colored head that lingers for a while. Nose is boozy, with rum notes and a considerable amount of roasted malt. Flavor-wise there is a good malt backbone shining with a decent amount of sweetness covered by roasted malt that comes out ashy at times (which I despise usually, but this time I’m able to get over it). Alcohol is well hidden and the syrupy mouthfeel from the restrained carbonation makes the experience really enjoyable only in small quantities.

Draught at Oluthuone Leskinen, Oulu. Colour is almost black with brownish white head. Aromas and flavours are alcohol, chocolate, rum and roasted malts. Oily and hard to drink.

Bottle at home. Pours a totally black colour with a light brown head. The aroma is compact and filled with roastedness, coffee and leather. Lots of roasted malt in the flavour as well with more of the same but feels sweeter, and in addtion some oak and a hint of liqueur. Has a rich and oily mouthfeel, and a light bitterness. This is a rich and wonderful ale, and another great powerful beer from Hornbeer, but where’s the rum?

Bottle, 50 cl. Deep reddish brown verging on black with a small and creamy tan head. Aroma is burned malty with notes of tar, bulwark, chocolate and rum. Rich body, thick texture, soft carbonation. Sweet flavor with burned, ashy malts and faint notes of rum, leading to dry and lingering burned finish. Well hidden alcohol.

500ml bottle from Vinmonopolet. Solid black body, light brown big and long lasting head. Aroma of coffee, cocoa and liquorice. Intense taste. A bit bitter.

Kaatuu lasiin sysimustana, vaahto on maitosuklaan värinen ja niukahko jääden oluen pinnalle. Haju on alkoholisen turpeinen ja palaneen maltainen. Salmiakki ja suklaa kummittelee taustalta, vaikka jääkin turpeisuuden ja multaisuuden alle. Toisaalta hajusta pitää ja toisaalta taas ei. Maku on makean maltainen, turpeinen, paahteinen, jopa hedelmäinen ja lehtipuinen. Alkoholi tulee jälkimaussa mukaan. Suutuntuma on katkera, lämmittävä ja hieman alkoholinen. Kokonaisuutena tämä on hieman turhan palanut omaan makuun, mutta ei kuitenkaan niin palanut kuin haju antoi odottaa. Kunnon lämmittäjä.

Pitch black colour with tiny tan head. Roasted malt, sweetness, wine, mild bitterness and toffee in aroma. Flavour is roasted malt, brown sugary sweetness, whiskey-like sweetness, some bitterness, vanilla, wood, wine and some warming alcohol. Rich and tasty brew. Alcohol rather well hidden.

Flaske 0,5l fra Vinmonopolet, Tromsø Sentrum. Beksvart. Høyt mokkafarget skum som varer lenge og etterlate filigranser. God sjokoladearoma med et litt søtlig preg. Oljeaktig konsistens. Silkemyk munnfølelse. Smaken velbalansert. Litt søt frukt med en antydning til rom i bakgrunnen. Blir litt syrlig etter hvert. Alkoholen er farlig godt gjemt.

Bottled. Semi-sweet, full bodied, mid to high bitterness, balanced CO2. Very complex, rich taste, coffee beans, chocolate, cocoa, rum, wood (?), vanilla. The high ABV burns a bit in the finish, but otherwise very well balanced. (2009-08-18)
