COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Bottle from Vika enjoyed at home
Orange hazy, big beige head. Smells powerfully of citrus, sweet tropical fruits, zests and malts. Surprising taste according to the aroma, still i knew this was a lager type, light malty, light to medium sweet, lager yeast and very light fruity lager taste, quite strickt, crisp and clean. Quite dry on the palate. Very nice combo with the hops indeed. Medium to heavy bitter finish, lots of hops, resins and zests. Medium body, light smooth texture, soft carbonation. Very nice lager beer. The hops are awsome and works very well with the light lager body. I want more of this!

Bottle, shared with Foffern and Inbreak. Pours a near-murky light nougat body with a small white head. Aroma is mild grassy tones with some herbal and citric hints; very American but rather subtle. Taste is pollen-like floral tones, grass, hints of resin and honey melon. Smooth mouthfeel, but the overall feeling is a bit "dead", as if coming from a nitro tap or something. All in all an OK beer but not very lager-like (the hops take away that part pretty efficiently); more in the APA direction. Decent enough, though.

So, a dry hopped, bottom fermented beer that claims that it’s not a lager nor an IPA? It sounds a bit confusing, but nevertheless exactly what I need right now, after a day of garden work including pruning of a thuja. Hazy orange body with a large, creamy, off-white head that never gets any smaller than a thick layer. Excellent lacing! The aroma is strong and very inviting. I’m not sure if it’s the thuja still playing with my nose, but I swear I get thuja needles! First of all, however, the aroma is very fruity, with peach, pineapple and grapefruit. I must admit that I don’t get any lager notes, this could easily have been an APA or IPA. A light sweetness opens the ball, while the long-lasting finish is moderate to heavy bitter, a quite sharp (but pleasant) perfume bitterness. The flavours are again typical APA/IPA to me, with fairly ripe fruits, crisp and clean grapefruit now overshadows the sweeter tropical fruity notes. Also pine/spruce/thuja/whatever needles, while some unidentified sweet malty elements lurk politely in the background. The medium body, the oily to dry texture, the medium carbonation and the light dry finish give a very more-ish mouthfeel. A very unusual but highly successful approach to a pale lager: why aren’t more lagers heavily hopped like this? It’s interesting that I don’t get any lager notes, I need to compare this to an APA or a mild IPA sometime in the future. Anyway, The best India Pale Lager I’ve ever had!

Foffern (1150) - Bodø, NORWAY - MAY 28, 2012
Bottle shared with (and courtasy of) ClubGonzo and Inbreak. Pours a pretty hazy and light brown colour, not far from sewer actually. The head is small with a white colour and is pretty compact. Smooth and fruity aroma with grass, herbs and a nice hoppy touch. The flavour is also fruity with berries, hay, grapefruit and fruity hops. Slick and silky mouth feel, and a pretty heavy bitterness. The hops are really in focus here, but there’s also some fruityness all over.

Bottle. Aroma of berries, hay and Amarillo hops. Golden yellow colour with white head. Flavour is almost like an IPA and a surprisingly good one. Plenty of hops with notes af grass and berries. Elegant dry and slightly soked finish.
