3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Clear, dark amber body with a red hue, topped by a small, frothy, short-lived head that leaves some lacing on my brand new Hornbeer glass (thanks a bundle, jikvig!). Quite strong lightly roasted sweet malty aroma with dark caramel, milk chocolate, sweet dark dried fruits (sugary raisins) and even some faint fresh fruits in the back, isn’t that a pineapple struggling for freedom? Moderate sweet taste with a moderate to light bitter finish. I really miss the Hornbeer trademark: the hop overdose. Dark malty flavours with mainly caramel and dried fruits, faint bread and nuts. Quite thin and watery for such a high ABV, moderate carbonation and a metallic touch in the finish. A decent beer, but for a Hornbeer it’s a bit disappointing.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
0.5l bottle. This is a clear deep dark red-brown one with a good looking medium sized light beige head that sticks around for a while. On the aroma this one is sweet and malty with lots of sweet caramel. Also I get lots of concentrated dried fruits here. Mostly sweet, and I’m sure some would think this is too sweet, bit I like this aroma. The taste is not as sweet as I had thought. Really nicely balanced, it’s both malty with a suiting bitterness. Dark malty, yeah, and brown-nutty. I also get hints of something beefy - almost smoky in the aftertaste. Even though it’s not too impressive - either on the mouthfeel or carbonation level, this was actually a bit interesting, and probably one of the best I’ve had from the brewery. 13.07.2012

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Vika enjoyed at home
Pours dark redly brown, quite murky, big tanned head. Smells of caramel, toffee, alcohol, malts, dry and dark ripe fruits. Taste is quite malty, heavy sweet, quite fruity on the dark sweet side. Dried fruits and nuts too. Nice light bitter finish with fruity and earthy aromas. Medium bodied, light oily texture, soft carbonation. Totally a very nice fruity bock. Lots of nyances and layers. THis is an awsome beer and this proves that lager yeast can be quite fun

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
On bottle, dark brown color, some foam.
Malty aromas ans hints of smoke.
Sweet notes in taste, a bit unbalanced with alcoholic flavour. The bitterness does not balance the sweetness, but is distinct in aftertaste .
Medium body and complexity
Pretty ok beer

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from Vinmonopolet in Valkendorfsgate, Bergen. Pours a dark brown-nougat body with a faint bronze hue and a creamy, short-lasting white head. Aroma is caramel malts, burnt sugar, dough bread and hints of smoke and alcohol. Despite the complexity, it’s all a bit faint. Taste is caramel, rye, dark malts, smoke and hints of nuts and herbs. Medium body, above average carbonation which works fine. A decent doppelbock, but no more.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
500 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet Vika, Oslo. ABV is 7.0%. Cloudy dark amber to brown colour, moderate off-white head. Sweetish aroma of caramel malts, brown bread and Danish pastry. The flavour has also notes of caramel and brown bread, but is not too sweet. Moderate hops in the finish. A quite decent bock this one - might buy again..
