Editor's note: Formerly known as "Hornbeer Doppel Bock".

A clear mahoganny amber bock with a thin brown head. In aroma, a harsh medicinal malt with boiled veggies, unpleasant. In mouth, a sourish malt, infected, caramel and raspy mouthfeel.

50 cl bottle from Bieropholie, shared with others. Some nice Bock characteristics with a lot of infection...a shame.

Botella de 500ml. Copa Pokal. Pokal glass. Enjoyed on sep´12. Ruby in color headed by beige crown. Fairly good retention. Strong chocolate, figs, candies & coffee notes both in flavors & aromas. Gentle mild toasted caramel malt upfront followed by underlying bitterness. Strong licorice & dates. Full body. Soft carbonation. Oily to watery texture. Slightly bitter cocoa finish. Hints of coffee & licorice extract on the aftertaste. Subtle involving alcoholic touch. Well balanced flavors & aromas. Delicious beer!!

pours relatively clear amber-red with a decent off-white head, little retention. nuttiness, toasted cereals, fresh cereals, hint of roastiness and chocolate, spicy malts, very herbal, grassy. hint of sweetness and yeastiness - earthy. average carbonation, medium body - oily, nice grassy finish. more like a dunkler bock.

Clear, dark amber body with a red hue, topped by a small, frothy, short-lived head that leaves some lacing on my brand new Hornbeer glass (thanks a bundle, jikvig!). Quite strong lightly roasted sweet malty aroma with dark caramel, milk chocolate, sweet dark dried fruits (sugary raisins) and even some faint fresh fruits in the back, isn’t that a pineapple struggling for freedom? Moderate sweet taste with a moderate to light bitter finish. I really miss the Hornbeer trademark: the hop overdose. Dark malty flavours with mainly caramel and dried fruits, faint bread and nuts. Quite thin and watery for such a high ABV, moderate carbonation and a metallic touch in the finish. A decent beer, but for a Hornbeer it’s a bit disappointing.

Light bronze pour with a fast diminishing off-white head. Nose is dull of caramel and malty sweetness. Some raisins and dates. Taste is mellow malty sweet, mellow bitterness in the finish. Medium to full body and soft carb..

0.5l bottle. This is a clear deep dark red-brown one with a good looking medium sized light beige head that sticks around for a while. On the aroma this one is sweet and malty with lots of sweet caramel. Also I get lots of concentrated dried fruits here. Mostly sweet, and I’m sure some would think this is too sweet, bit I like this aroma. The taste is not as sweet as I had thought. Really nicely balanced, it’s both malty with a suiting bitterness. Dark malty, yeah, and brown-nutty. I also get hints of something beefy - almost smoky in the aftertaste. Even though it’s not too impressive - either on the mouthfeel or carbonation level, this was actually a bit interesting, and probably one of the best I’ve had from the brewery. 13.07.2012
