Draught @ Kaisla, Helsinki. Originally rated on 21.5.2010. Okay fruit beer with notes of fruits, oak and vanilla. Cranberry notes come through a bit too much. Slightly unbalanced.

Kinda weird fruitbeer to me. Normally I like the color but not the smell and taste, but in this case I didnít like the color but smell and taste were pretty decent. Nice carbo and fine body as well. Not bad at all.

Hornbeer oak aged cranberry bastard. On tap at schouskjelleren...
Pours a mostly murky deep toffee brown and topped with thin to medium
off-white head... Aroma of tart, sour cranberry with a little oak and
tart cherry and very light vinegar. Some pale malt in the
background... Flavors are much ofthe same, sourness is a little dialed
down but then a smokiness presents itself midway through. Medium,
pretty full bodied with light to medium carbonation. Nice and
different take on a sour/wild.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle sample @ Copenhagen Beer Festival 2011. Pours a hazy, near-murky nut brown body with a small beige head. Aroma is oak, cranberries, hints of pine and black berries. Taste has the wooden tones and cranberry thing going all right, along with hints of smoke, peat and herbs. While this might sound pretty awesome, it wasnít. Weird stuff, and this beer doesnít work too well in my mouth. Some extra points for originality though, and I can totally imagine someone taking a big liking to this.

Tap@Schouskjelleren. A dark, hazy reddish brown, with a thin creamy beige head. This is like smelling a glass of blackcurrant syrup. Itís insane how similar the aromas are to home made blackcurrant syrup. I made a bunch last fall, so this I know. The only thing different is the slightly smoky note on the nose when it warms, along with the oakiness. I havenít really had cranberries a lot, but I guess theyíre similar to blackcurrants. The flavour is just juicy as hell, loads of berry sweetness and tartness, more wood than in the nose, and more smoke as it warms. Well balanced. Carbonation is calm, medium bodied, which I feel suits it well. Itís not a sessioner, itís too sweet for that. Itís not very complex either. It was however a damn good drink that I thoroughly enjoyed, if only for its incredible juiciness and similarity to a berry I very much enjoy.
