Tap@Schouskjelleren. A dark, hazy reddish brown, with a thin creamy beige head. This is like smelling a glass of blackcurrant syrup. It’s insane how similar the aromas are to home made blackcurrant syrup. I made a bunch last fall, so this I know. The only thing different is the slightly smoky note on the nose when it warms, along with the oakiness. I haven’t really had cranberries a lot, but I guess they’re similar to blackcurrants. The flavour is just juicy as hell, loads of berry sweetness and tartness, more wood than in the nose, and more smoke as it warms. Well balanced. Carbonation is calm, medium bodied, which I feel suits it well. It’s not a sessioner, it’s too sweet for that. It’s not very complex either. It was however a damn good drink that I thoroughly enjoyed, if only for its incredible juiciness and similarity to a berry I very much enjoy.

Smokey aroma. Thick light-tan colored head, murky brownish-red in color. Smokey (too much for my taste) with cranberry juice fruity sweetness (also too fruity and sweet for me).

Pours a very murky brown. Huge cream-colored head that drops a little and leaves a nice lacing. Very murky. Sour. Little bit of maltiness. Not much nose to this one, which is strange considering the cranberries and oak that is purported to be in here. Very bourbony. Little tart. Sweet with malt. The cranberries start coming out after drinking for a bit and the oak (read: bourbon flavor) starts to mellow. Cloying. Not much, but the sugar sticks to the corner of your mouth and you have to lick it off every now and then. The oakiness starts out heavy, but mellows as you get used to it, but the tart from cranberries picks up where the oak leaves off. Not bad. The oak seems to stick around in your mouth for a bit afterwards. But you can’t ding a beer for that when it’s in the name.

21-JAN-2011, bottle @home, from "Fish & Beer". Off course the foam whants to run out of the bottle just after opening. It is a real Hornbeer. Murky brown with huge beige head. Aroma is fruity, malty. Taste is fruity, I know it is cranberries, so I recognize them. Slightly sour with quite a bit of brown sugary sweetness. A dusty woody note adds a lot to the taste. Very belgian in style. Very fine brew. I really like this a lot.

Svesse (6137) - Hässelby, SWEDEN - NOV 6, 2010
(Draught at Monk’s Porterhouse, Stockholm, 2 Nov 2010) Cloudy reddish brown colour with frothy, beige head. Fruity, acidic nose with oak wood, cranberries and hints of old socks. Fruity, tart taste with notes of cranberries, red fruit, oak wood and hints of chocolate. More than medium body, fairly sweet. Not very bitter, the cranberry and oak wood take over. Not the most balanced beer, but quite interesting.
