MiP (6029), Flensburg, Germany May 25, 2008 Draught at ÅBF08. Buttery, creamy aroma. Very dark colour, almost black. Very small head. The flavour is nicely smoked, hint of cream. Good. Maria (4461), Thisted, Denmark Jun 1, 2008 Dark brown with a nice smoky aroma with notes of roasted malt and bacon. The flavour has a clear and clean smoke note, that IMO is just right, especially because the sweetness is there but subdued and in no way cloying and assaulting. The other notes are roasted malt, smoked eel skin and IMO it’s a really, really nice smoked beer. yngwie (3602), Kristiansand, Norway Jul 2, 2008 On tap at Århus Ølfestival. An almost clear, quite dark brown beer with a beige head. Smoked, bacon-ish, malty aroma with caramel. Medium to full, mellow mouthfeel with flavors of smoked malt, sweetness, caramel and a little unwanted touch of metal. Sweet, smoked finish. Maybe a bit sweet overall, but a nice beer. Mild, well balanced beer with just the right amount of smokiness. A splendid session beer. TBone (5116), Pori, Finland Sep 23, 2008 (Bottled, BB 10/2009).
Dark brown color, small beige head. Very strong Bamberg smoke malt aroma with tiny hint of licorice. Palate is a bit thin, light dunkel -like. Smoked wood and ham, malts with dryish mouthfeel. Lingering smokeyness in the aftertaste. I agree with KnutAlbert that this is quite good session beer. Not as complex and heavy as Schlenkerla, but drinkable.
