COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Bottle at Øltorget, march 5th 2013. Hazu dark brown body, topped with a medium white head. Aroma of malt, smoke, and sour hops, taking away from an elsewhere nice aroma. Taste is astringent malt extract really, with just a little smoke. Not very enjoyable, makes me wonder if there’s something wrong with the beer. Was served way too cold as most beers at the place are but I let it warm so that should not be the reason.

On tap at DØE BeerFest 2012 [Backlog]. Pours a deep brown with a small light brown head. Great smell and a good taste - but not as smoky as I’d expected. Still, a pretty good smoky beer.

500 ml bottle courtesy of Jacob. Pours an opaque dark brown color with a small khaki head that has good retention. The aroma features smokehouse meats and an impression of of smoldering embers. The taste features more smoked goodness and begs comparison to the Schlenkerla brews. The palate is on the lighter side, but effective, and the carbonation is soft. Finishes long and dry with lingering smoke and ash. Overall: This is a great smoked beer.

On tap @ Naboen. This is a deep dark ruby one with a small beige head. It smells, oh yeah, smoky! Beefy smoky with rocks and malts. Quite nice, but perhaps a bit one dimensional. It’s really comfortably average carbonated and it has a nice oily texture. Flavors also are heavily smoky. Totally dominating, but not to much. Some dry licorice, bacon and more of that sigary-smoky power. I’m not a smoked-beer guy normally, but I quite enjoyed this one. 09.06.2012

Bottle from Høkeren. Pours red-brown with a one finger brown head. Smoked pig and sasuage and malt to the nose. Reminds me a lot of smoked cheese regarding the taste, nice. Medium bodied, on the low side. Carbonation is low. The downside is the after taste which is not prominent at all, a thing that I’ve found on most smoked beers.

50 cl bottle. BBE 01.10.2009, rated on 16.11.2010
Aroma is a bit ashy with woody and smoky notes. Flavour is smoky with wood, ash and hints of salt. Reminds me of Norwegian Wood, but this is more messy.

Bottle, courtesy of Mogens (whose RB nick I’ve forgotten, but he’s not really that active anyway...) - cheers man! :-) Pours a dark brown-black body with a medium white head. Aroma is brown malts, smoke, smoked pork, hints of nuts and burnt toast. Taste is smoked pork, bacon, ashes, hints of brown malts and burnt toast again in the finish. Lacks a bit of body, otherwise a really nice smoked ale.
