Men døm selv.

Gotta say I do equate good beer with decent labeling, and I was going to give this guy a pass until I did a quick check to realize the #beerlove this one garners. So let’s give it a try. Pours a pitch black with fairly minimal amount of beige head. Roasty. toasty malts with lots of chocolate and coffee. Nice. The taste is exceptional. I was worried I’d run into burnt-malt syndrome that seems to crop up with dark beers but not here. Rich roasted malt profile, with a distinct but not overwhelming sweetness. Coco some coffee and lots of maltly awesomeness. Overall a very, very nice beer. If you’re going to do a stout - do a stout.

Deep black pour with a thick tan head. The nose is intense. Roasty and chewy with a very oily palate. Has a lot of really rich cocoa and coffee flavour. A touch savoury with some light spiciness on the finish. Has some nice dark fruit and a bit of licorice and a touch of soft roast. A little bit of roast and a touch of soft vanilla. Has a lot of complexity and a really pleasant finish. Sticky and rich with a nice soft warming finish. Damn. Absolutely delicious.

Settles into the glass a thick, oily black with a slight cap of dark cherry foam that settles to a subtle ring. First thing you notice is how dry this imperial stout is. Many interpretations of the style devolve into a sticky sweetness, while this one comes off like a pure shot of espresso -- not too bitter, like in the hands of an artisan barista. It’s not clear from the babbling copy on the label if real coffee is involved. Alcohol at 10% is in the house but almost in the shadows. Not as muscular or complex as some of my favourite imperial stouts but quite enjoyable to drink on a Friday evening in the icy dead of winter. Recommended.

Pitchblack beer with a big beige head. Aroma of dark chocolate, coffe, some floral hop notes, some sweet notes of prunes and vanilla and roasted malt - no real alcohol pressence. The taste is dominated by roasted malt, loads of bitter coffe and hops, dried fruit. Alcohol is well-hidden tastewise as well. Very nice beer and one of the absolute top contenders from Hornbeer.

Warka do 02.01.2024. Kolor nieprzejrzyscie czarny. Piana obfita, brunatna, powoli opada do cienkiej warstwy, prawie nie oblepia szkla. W aromacie wanilia, kawa, lukrecja, orzechy, czerwone owoce, sliwki, rodzynki, suszone morele, drewno, lekki alkohol. W odczuciu nisko wysycone, pelne, gladkie, zawiesiste, maczyte. W smaku podobne jak w aromacie, mocno palone i czekoladowe, lekko slodkawe, miodowe, smak moglby byc bogatszy, ale nie jest zle. Goryczka srednia, ziolowa, ziemista, lodygowa, delikatnie zywiczna i cytrusowo-kwaskowa, lekko alkoholowa.

Some coffee and vanilla with grassy hop in aroma. Looking really dark with deep brown foam. Medium body what isnt good for an imperial stout, bitternes dominate in this beer - both hoppy grassy one with light citruses and some roasty with espresso notes. Overall american styly imperial stout. Just above average.

Bottle from LCBO. Aroma of dark fruit and coffee. Dark fruit (figs, cherry), roasty and chocolate notes, with a dry bitter finish. Gets smoky as time goes on. Very nice.

500 mL bottle from the LCBO, served in a snifter. Pours black with a small-moderate light brown head that fades to a thin cover and leaves a small amount of fine lace. The nose has huge coffee and roasted malts, along with smoke, subtle chocolate and a hint of hops. Woody notes come through as well, but these are very subtle. The flavour is fairly well balanced up front between moderate coffee bitterness and a slightly more subtle chocolate malty sweetness. As it lingers on the palate, the coffee bitterness takes over, along with smoky roasted malts and bitter hops. Liquorice is present, though mild. The finish is long and roasty, with a nice coffee-hop bitterness that lingers. On the palate it is medium-full in body with a smooth, milky texture and soft carbonation. Overall, a very respectable imperial stout with a huge coffee character despite having no actual coffee to my knowledge. Very well done. 2014-12-31
