2.4 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Whatever the type of this beer may be, its aroma is very complex. The best before date was 03-15-13, maybe this contributes to the peculiar nose. Taste reminds of a sweet dubbel, slightly bitter aftertaste. Palate is ok at first, decreases a bit (lack of carbonation). Admittedly, this bottle might have been too old, but in this case it’s a bit disappointing.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Barley Wine, CPH. Pours cloudy golden brown with a short, soft khaki head. Big caramel, pine and tropical fruit aroma. Loads of hops and a nice sweet malty backbone. Taste is big for a pale ale, big tropical hop profile with a prominent caramel malt character. Nice bitterness without being a kick in the face. Awesome pale.

2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Unbalanced and sprawling. The aroma in the glass is nice and foam good, but inside the mouth wrestling flavors without harmony. Well hopped without being bitter.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Ar: resin, grapefruit, tropical fruits, accenuated caramel backbone, lots of hops, but also a lots of malts, soft notes of herbs and some grassiness.
Ap: murky copper colour, medium off-white head.
F: medium bite for the style. Pronounced maltiness, jam, honey, bread, grapefruit, resin, herbs. Not at all the fresh aromatic hoppiness that I’ve come to expect from Hornbeer, slightly warming finish.
P: medium body soft carbonation.
T: considering the high esteem I hold for Hornbeer this was a bit of a disappointment.
