Whatever the type of this beer may be, its aroma is very complex. The best before date was 03-15-13, maybe this contributes to the peculiar nose. Taste reminds of a sweet dubbel, slightly bitter aftertaste. Palate is ok at first, decreases a bit (lack of carbonation). Admittedly, this bottle might have been too old, but in this case it’s a bit disappointing.

Bottle from Barley Wine, CPH. Pours cloudy golden brown with a short, soft khaki head. Big caramel, pine and tropical fruit aroma. Loads of hops and a nice sweet malty backbone. Taste is big for a pale ale, big tropical hop profile with a prominent caramel malt character. Nice bitterness without being a kick in the face. Awesome pale.

Tap @ CBC Clerkenwell. The pour’s medium amber with a modest white head. The nose is herb garden earthiness, dirt. Some honey, rose petal, jasmine. A bit of citrus. The taste is orange peel candies, some caramel. White pepper and more herbs. Lemon meat. Grassy, summery meadow. Light body, fine carbonation. Overall, bright flavors. Intriguing stuff. Good.

Unbalanced and sprawling. The aroma in the glass is nice and foam good, but inside the mouth wrestling flavors without harmony. Well hopped without being bitter.

Ar: resin, grapefruit, tropical fruits, accenuated caramel backbone, lots of hops, but also a lots of malts, soft notes of herbs and some grassiness. Ap: murky copper colour, medium off-white head. F: medium bite for the style. Pronounced maltiness, jam, honey, bread, grapefruit, resin, herbs. Not at all the fresh aromatic hoppiness that I’ve come to expect from Hornbeer, slightly warming finish. P: medium body soft carbonation. T: considering the high esteem I hold for Hornbeer this was a bit of a disappointment.
