3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
500ml bottle (Pikkulintu, Helsinki)
Huge (chilli) pepper aroma - whole fruits, not just the hot parts, quite fresh. Very smooth palate, oily, but OK carbonation. Roast is daaark. Some fruity esters, and alcohol pushes those spikes up you nose quite effectively. Touch coffee-ey finish from that sweet dark roast, but the chilli pops up too. It’s remarkably balanced, it’s just a gentle little warm throb, just about right. Perhaps a bit flat and slick in the mouthfeel? Perhaps an under-rate.

A nice strong beer having the chilli taste and the burning but neither was too excessive.

Craft Clerkenwell. Keg. Opaque black - brown beer. Little pale tan head. Palate is soft with mild fine carbonation. Smooth dark malt with light dark chocolate. Mild and smooth malt cream. The chilli makes itslef known and provides warmth without searing your palate. Finishes smooth. A rich and tasty stout with a nice contrast of dark chocolate and chilli.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap at CBC Clerkenwell. Black pour with a small tan head which quickly disappears. Nose is a fair bit liquorice and pepper focused. Some light dark bittering chocolate coming into play. Aniseed and chili in the taste with typical dark chocolate. Surprisingly balanced nicely. Solid stuff

3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Keg. Small beige head doesn’t endure, and there is minimal lacing. Smells yeasty. Body is mid to heavy for the style. Syrupy sweet chocolatey start to the taste, roasted barley, coffee and a bit of smokey chilli in the finish which builds over time. It’s a very good beer, but a yeasty sharpness lets it down a bit.
