COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

31.12.12. Bottle. Not much foam, light brown color though. The beer is black (surprise!). Aroma is a combination of coffee and caramel. Smooth stuff that I thoroughly enjoyed.

The body is black and nice, but the head ruins the visual impression of this beer. It’s actually quite large initially and looks rather creamy, but it isn’t very long-lived and it disappears completely and leaves only a few patches of film. The aroma is strong, unusual and frankly quite strange. Is this a secret Hornbeer/Loverbeer cooperation? First of all I get barnyard notes and additional leather. It’s not unpleasant, but the roasted barnyard took me by surprise. Also coffee notes. The taste is very light sweet and light sour with a long-lasting moderate plus bitter finish. The roasted flavours are also dominated by the sour barnyard stuff, also fermented apples, wood, smoke and coffee. Is it actually supposed to be like this, or is the bottle lightly infected? The mouthfeel is very nice, with a medium to full body and very soft carbonation. It feels very dry on the palate, especially in the finish. Strange stuff.
[50 cl bottle, enjoyed 2 years before BB date, from Vinmonopolet Vika, Oslo]

UPDATED: JAN 6, 2013 Pours black with a small brown head; some lacing stays on the sides. Roasty, very malty aroma with notes of chocolate, coffee, rye bread. Taste is very rich; the maltiness is deliciously full and smooth. Espressolike flavours appear with a little dark chocolate. Not very sweet, dryish roastiness dominates. The palate is creamy, soft and nearly completely full bodied, flat carbonation - mouthfeel couldn’t be much better for this style, in my opinion. A great Imperial Porter for cold winter nights, nice flavours and an excellent palate.

Bottle (50cl) from Vinmonopolet (Vika), Oslo. Very dark brown colour. Fingerthick offwhite head, quite good retention. Aroma of roasted malt, wood, licorice, smoked meat, caramel (maybe a hint of honey). Pleasantly soft palate, medium/full body, soft carbonation. Semi-sweet aroma that becomes rapidly drier and more roasted bitter - in a good way, giving an overall well-balanced impression.

Bottle 50 cl, BBE 12.11.2015. Pours very dark brown in color with thin tan head. Roasted malts, mocha and milk chocolate in aroma. Nice. But the taste is even better. Roasted malts again, some chocolate, but more in the vein of bitter chocolate this time at first, some slightly aged wood also. Light notes of salty licorice also. Tasty and the alcohol is well hidden. Creamy, mocha, sligthly burnt in aftertaste also. There is some element that remains untold, can’t really put my finger on it, but it feels like something ’sharp’.

Bottle. Thanks tstm. Pours pretty much black with a small dark mocha-colored head. Aroma is pretty porter-like. Roasted malt, coffee, light chocolate. A lot of roast. Taste is very sweet and really shows that there’s something added to it. Still very roasted, some coffee and chocolate, but much sweeter than these kinds of things usually. The sweetness of the honey is very much in the forefront even if the flavor isn’t so much. Perhaps too sweet for a 500ml bottle, unless you’re sharing it. Palate is full and smooth.
