Clear brown body with a thick, clinging tan head. Decent yet light aroma of spice and malt. Borderline thin palate, but the beer is smooth. The flavor starts overall sweet with just a touch of spice (cinnamon?). It’s malty and smooth. The finish is fairly smooth. There is a bit of a cloying aftertaste, like a little too much cinnamon. Not a bad beer.

Comes out of the tap a clear chestnut, not exactly what I expect from a porter, but the pale tan wheat head is thick and foamy and rather persistent. Malty, smoky aroma has an overtone of cinnamon and hints of bread and caramel. Malty, bready flavor has that cinnamon note plus woody hop and caramel notes. Doesn’t taste like a porter, tastes more like liquid cinnamon toast - but who cares, it’s tasty and enjoyable. Texture has average viscosity and fizz, and leaves a nice cinnamon toast finish.

12oz bottle, I was surprised by the pour, not as dark as a porter. Aroma of cocca malts, smooth tasting beer. Not a big bite like some porter may have, but very enjoyable.

Light cola brown with a thin white head. Smells faintly like a porter with a sweet caramel note. Taste is a bit better, with some nutty notes, and a bit of cocoa, but I can’t say I get the brownie aspect of this

Pours a clear red with a small head. Smells of cinnamon, toffee, toast - a little cloying. Taste is sweet, cinnamon, vanilla, cocoa. Interesting, but definitely not a porter.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Buy Rite, 1/20/13, Rating 2775

Aroma: The nose is sweet and malty, with chocolate, caramel, vanilla, and a little spice
Appearance: Pours a clear reddish-dark orange/brown color with a small beige head and light lace
Flavor: Taste-wise, it is sweet, with the same notes as the nose and almost no balancing bitterness
Palate: The body is light and it drinks a little too watery, with average-plus carbonation and a short duration
Overall Impression: This is an OK beer. I don’t think it tastes like a brownie, but it is sweet, and it has some of the same flavors. The feel is a bit of an issue as well, as it is hard to shake how watery it feels. Overall, this one is not bad, just sub par.

From a tap at burgatory in robinson. Not quite as dark as I would expect a porter to be. Does have a mild roastiness to it on the olfactory, so I guess its almost porter like in smell. Taste is somewhat like a dark decent beer, mild without lots of personality. Lacks some of th attributes that I associate with porter, probably more like a dark lager. Same with the appearance, this stuff is not really dark enough to be a porter, more like a yuengling and I don’t mean the black and tan. Yes, not offensive so I guess that is a positive when it comes to beer ande ale. Finish is accetable. One of the less offensive horny goat beers I’ve had.

Sampled on draught at the Horny Hideaway and from 12-oz bottle. Pours a clear brownish amber colored brew with a cream off-white head that quickly dissipates and leaves behind some spotty lacing. Aroma of sharp grassy hops, some light caramel and chocolate malts, a hint of cinnamon and some allspice. Taste is light to medium bodied, some spicy hop presence with flavors of both caramel and chocolate malts, some spicy, grassy hops and a touch of allspice. Finish is semi-dry with a chocolate and grassy hop aftertaste. Though I would consider the beer color more of a brown ale than a robust porter, I have to agree the flavor does remind me of those Duncan Hines brownies my mom used to make.

So I see this beer labelled Brownie and I think, "Oh, a brown ale." Then I see it says porter and I think, "Well, porter makes sense too." And then I see above porter it says "flavored." What is this nonsense? Well, it’s a spiced amber ale that doesn’t even taste like a brownie--unless your mom used a non-Joy-of-Cooking standard brownie recipe that incorporated heap tons of cinnamon. I guess this is OK overall. It is sort of a mild American amber w/ a bit too much spice for its own good. It is not the freshest, best balanced or most vibrant tasting thing but I guess overall it tastes pretty much like beer w/ some cinnamon in it and that’s not the end of the world.
