2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Ughsmash (5631) - Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA - OCT 9, 2008
16oz can. Poured clear bright golden with about 1" of initial white head.. lots of rising carbonation. The aroma wasn’t bad with maize and banana sweetness accented by white pepper and a little orange zest.. sweet overall. The flavor was quite similar with sweet honey and pale malts at the core.. mild tangy wheat and orange zest at the edges.. picked up some dry peppery spicage for the finish.. just a touch sour right at the back. Lighter-bodied with a bit of syrupy texture on the palate.. not quite dry enough at the finish.. tangy tartness was close to metallic, but maintained its air of refreshment. Much better than it rates.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 nqualls (1452) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - SEP 2, 2008
Pint can. Poured a hazy dark gold color with almost no head. Aroma was earthy with a subtle spice note. Flavor was seriously lacking. Slight orange hint with a little wheat, but a metallic flavor. Body was too light and carbonation was a little low.
2.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 theisti (2371) - Leawood, Kansas, USA - AUG 26, 2008
Pint can, graciously given to me by csbosox. Pour is a very muddled orange ruby, with little to no head. Aroma of dirt, wheat and some very mild spiciness. Taste is artificial wheat, orange peel bitterness, spoiling vegetables and a weird metallic element I can’t quite identify. I guess what I am trying to say is that it doesn’t taste very good. Palate, what difference does it make, really. Thanks Chris? Reading your rating, I assume this was from the same four pack, what gives?
2.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 phishpond417 (2089) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 20, 2008
Initially poured a cloudy golden, bright yellow colour, but one the smoke cleared it turned back to a vibrant yellow. Head was large and aromatic. Semi sweet, and mildly wheaty. Mouthfeel was light, and sort of flat to be honest, taste was tolerable but metallicaly. I wouldn’t call this a belgian wit, more like an american wheat.
2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 JPDIPSO (4957) - Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 12, 2008
A belgian wit from City Brewery, this should be a treat. Hazy, dirty golden color. Moderate, big bubbled, off-white head. Aromas of grain, old oranges and some spent spices. Well that’s as good as it gets. Touch of wheat and grain in the start. Some circus peanut sweetness in the middle along with a bit of pickling spice. Rather dry finish. Some more old dried up orange flavor. A tough style that was not handled with much finesse.
2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 FlagstoneHill (211) - Erie, Colorado, USA - AUG 5, 2008
16 oz Can
Thin aromas of citrus, light spice, would like a bit more punch, slitght metallic note (7/12)
Pale-gold, almost orangey, cloudy, very weak head retention, light effervescence (1/3).
Thin, oxidized flavor that reveals some orange peel/citrus with hints of spice. Sweetness in the finish. (12/20)
Light body, liight carbonation (not to style), sweet finish, would like more tartness, refreshness (2/5)
A fairly dark white beer. There’s a lack of carbonation and coating sweetness that is not at all to style. recipe feels lacking, would like more yeasty complexity, and the process could use tweaking (reducing mash temp to get thinner body, etc) (5/10)
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 nearbeer (2572) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - AUG 4, 2008
24 oz. can. Cloudy orange-gold with a large head that quickly settled to a small disc. Aroma of spicy yeast and citrus with some light honey and dry grass. Flavor is orange, lemongrass, and honey with an occasional bite from an apple-alcohol twang. Near-medium body is lightly carbonated and finishes dryish. This one seems almost a blend of a Belgian and an ESL.
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 csbosox (1188) - Prairie Village, Kansas, USA - JUL 21, 2008
One of four 16oz cans bought at Johns Grocery in Iowa City, the other were enjoyed on the disc golf course, which made for a nice round. This time it is served in a Chimay chalice. The aroma is light orange, husky wheat, and a touch of spice. At first, the aroma is faint, maybe due to the coldness, but it opens up nicely over time. The taste is sharp wheat, herbal spiciness, and some fairly prominent orange. The flavor is aided by a velvety, but also crisp body, and mild tartness. Seems well attenuated. I am not sure why this beer is rated so low, it is a very drinkable wit.
