BigMilly8 (353), Holiday, Florida, USA Mar 9, 2008 From can : Pours hazy orange with a finger and a half of white head, that has good retention. Nose of sweet fruits, wheat, orange peel, and some spices. Taste is sweet malts and some fruit, also spices and a hint of wheat. Finishes sweet, with a sweet aftertaste. Medium body that finishes think, soft carbonation, smooth mouthfeel.
phishpond417 (1386), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Aug 20, 2008 Initially poured a cloudy golden, bright yellow colour, but one the smoke cleared it turned back to a vibrant yellow. Head was large and aromatic. Semi sweet, and mildly wheaty. Mouthfeel was light, and sort of flat to be honest, taste was tolerable but metallicaly. I wouldn’t call this a belgian wit, more like an american wheat. JPDIPSO (4210), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA Aug 12, 2008 A belgian wit from City Brewery, this should be a treat. Hazy, dirty golden color. Moderate, big bubbled, off-white head. Aromas of grain, old oranges and some spent spices. Well that’s as good as it gets. Touch of wheat and grain in the start. Some circus peanut sweetness in the middle along with a bit of pickling spice. Rather dry finish. Some more old dried up orange flavor. A tough style that was not handled with much finesse. Thin aromas of citrus, light spice, would like a bit more punch, slitght metallic note (7/12)
Pale-gold, almost orangey, cloudy, very weak head retention, light effervescence (1/3).
Thin, oxidized flavor that reveals some orange peel/citrus with hints of spice. Sweetness in the finish. (12/20)
Light body, liight carbonation (not to style), sweet finish, would like more tartness, refreshness (2/5)
A fairly dark white beer. There’s a lack of carbonation and coating sweetness that is not at all to style. recipe feels lacking, would like more yeasty complexity, and the process could use tweaking (reducing mash temp to get thinner body, etc) (5/10)
nearbeer (1202), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Aug 4, 2008 24 oz. can. Cloudy orange-gold with a large head that quickly settled to a small disc. Aroma of spicy yeast and citrus with some light honey and dry grass. Flavor is orange, lemongrass, and honey with an occasional bite from an apple-alcohol twang. Near-medium body is lightly carbonated and finishes dryish. This one seems almost a blend of a Belgian and an ESL. csbosox (956), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA Jul 21, 2008 One of four 16oz cans bought at Johns Grocery in Iowa City, the other were enjoyed on the disc golf course, which made for a nice round. This time it is served in a Chimay chalice. The aroma is light orange, husky wheat, and a touch of spice. At first, the aroma is faint, maybe due to the coldness, but it opens up nicely over time. The taste is sharp wheat, herbal spiciness, and some fairly prominent orange. The flavor is aided by a velvety, but also crisp body, and mild tartness. Seems well attenuated. I am not sure why this beer is rated so low, it is a very drinkable wit.
