The focus is on the alcohol percent and the oats added to the mash during the brewing process. The oats add an incredible smoothness to the mouth feel and just a touch of sweetness to its body. Our version is a full body beer with a roasted flavor and creamy smooth mouth feel that conceals the alcohol content of 8.2 %.

This was actually poured into a tulip. The appearance was a black color with a slim one finger off white to foamy tan head that dissipated slightly and running into the beer. The smell had black licorice up front with a light glazing of chocolate coming out as it warmed. A decent amount of vanilla and roast also enter as it warms. The taste was moderately sweet through the black licorice and sly undercoat of bakerís chocolate. There wasnít any aftertaste but leaves a dry semi-roasty yet grainy finish. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a decent carbonation about it. I would have thought the oatmeal would have displaced the carbonation but I did feel the carbonation a bit. Slight graininess runs over in the texture. Overall, imperial oatmeal stout, interesting, could possibly do again, as a night cap, perhaps.

(bottle - 22 oz) Dark black pour with a creamy tan head. Heavy roasted aroma with a lot of bitterness. Not much oatmeal. Flavor is much the same. Tons of bitter roasted malts and lots of coffee. The oatmeal adds a good creamy body but not much in the way of flavor.

Shared Bobís bottle. Licorice dominates the smell along with burnt malt. Taste is mostly the charred stuff, and is a bit thing. Finishes surprisingly dry. Not a lot going on here.

Bottle. Pours black brown head. Nose/taste of burnt licorice root, bitter chocolate, flaked oats, coffee, half-baked cookie dough and dirty earth. Finishes with a burnt chocolate oatmeal note. Lighter medium body.

22 oz. bottle purchased at Daveís Bellport Cold Beer & Soda. I saw the date on the label of 12-21-12 and figured Iíd better grab a bottle before the last few disappear. Pours black with a moderate light brown head. Very pleasant aroma of coffee, chocolate, molasses, and mild roast. The flavor follows the aroma very closely with the same coffee, chocolate, molasses and mild roast. Mild bitterness at the finish. Very silky, smooth mouthfeel. Well rounded on the palate. Thoroughly enjoyable.

UPDATED: SEP 11, 2014 The name of the beer appears to be a reference to the ancient Mayan prediction re the end of the world. It looks like that was off the mark - letís hope it stays that way. The label also features a spooky drawing of an old temple. The pour is a foamy noir, and...wow! This is a first rate stout - a nice surprise from this small brewery. I tasted coffee, molasses, light fruity notes, and sweet, dark bread. The hops are present, but donít cut into the malts, which are the centerpiece of this brew. Excellent!! I hope they make some more, since I just grabbed the last bottle that was on the shelf.

UPDATED: DEC 8, 2013 This beer pours a dark brownish black color with a medium thin tan head that diminishes quickly to a film. Patches of lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, hops and coffee. Light-bodied with a roasty character of coffee and malt. Mild hops in the background. Only a small amount of alcohol noticed in the flavor. The finish is sweet with a chocolate malt aftertaste. I got this at AJís Beer Warehouse.

Stout pours black with big head and good lacing. Nose of rich dark roasted malts with coffee note. Taste is smooth with a somewhat semisweet flavor of rich malt on the lite side. Very good at 8.2% from growler on 2/19/13.
