A Mes rate: Cask at the Wenlock Black and opaque with a thin bubbly tan head. Malty with a nice smokiness and some slight chocolate and fruity notes. Nice bitter chocolate finish with more smoke. Touch thin in the mouth but pretty decent over all.

Nitro-poured black ale wearing a tremendously laced beige head. Quite grainy in nature, heavily roasty nose where slightly vegetal, beany coffee malts are up front and just complemented by subtle hops. Wet woodiness disturbs the flavours and frankly, the nitro pouring captures all the nuances of this dulled down and thinned offering.

This seemed like a nitro style stout, but I see that the Good Beer Guide suggests that it’s a real ale served by "gas, electric or mechanically powered pump". Whatever, it certainly has a smooth and creamy consistency. Very deep black colour. Lots of roasty malt, with a good bitterness. Starts with some sweetness, but finishes dry. Rather appealing. Ale Wagon, Leicester.

UPDATED: NOV 25, 2005 Cask conditioned - handpump - Maltings York. Now contract brewed by Tower brewing. A black stout with a dry aroma. There is some roastiness in the taste but otherwise very dry.
Drank again and mark adjusted 25/11/05 Ale Wagon Leicester Air Pressure - lovely choc and coffee aromas and tastes, smooth and less dry than before although needs more body. Definitely better than last time

On tap at the Ale Wagon, Leicester. Jet black Stout, with a neat, soft head and lacing like Saturn's rings. Smooth, very fluffy, oaty flavour, which leads to a more bitter and dry finish. Some milk and smoke in the aftertaste. Undramatic, but very pleasant.
