3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 C2H5OH (57) - Ontario, CANADA - MAY 20, 2012
Pours a clear, dark brown with a small, off-white head. Nose is bread malt, caramel, cherry, plum, chocolate, herbal hops, and some light woody notes. Mouth feel is medium-thin with medium carbonation. Taste is cereal malt, rye bread, plum, raisin, oak, chocolate, and a hint of smoke. Finishes dry, leaving raisin and dark chocolate. Very sweet and malty. One of the better doppelbocks I’ve had. Only downside is the mouth feel is a bit thin.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 bunget (132) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 9, 2012
500ml bottle. Deep mahogany color. Medium creamy head with good retention. Aroma of smoke-dried fruits, bread, caramel and camp flowers, yeast and some cheese sourness. Taste is sweet, lots of malt and herbs, good dose of hops, but not the bitterest variety. Low carbonation, oily mouth-feel, 7% alcohol well hidden. Very good double bock with its characteristic sweetness, one of the best bock that I had so far.
2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 9/20 TheCellarer (19) - Tromsø, NORWAY - MAY 8, 2012
UPDATED: MAY 21, 2012 500 ml flip-top bottle brought to Beer session XIX in Tromsø 220312 by Jan Erik. Thanks! Comical and slightly annoying label with a cliché-ridden motif (think "Elg i solnedgang"). Appearance of reddish brown body and the short-lasting clear white head however is pleasing enough. Aroma is very sweet and sugary with a clearly evident alcoholic punch. Taste is very similar. The palate is possibly the highlight of this beer, not too dry or watered and gives a good impression in the mouth. Overall though not too impressed.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 chris__hartley (62) - Ontario, CANADA - MAY 7, 2012
It pours mahogany with tawny and ruby highlights; the head is light beige and foamy. The aroma has notes of: raisins, rye-sourdough, red-fruit jam, alcohol, and coriander. The taste is medium sweet that finishes light bitter; there are notes of; red-fruit jam, toasted oats, walnuts, hazelnuts, and spicy hops. The palate is medium-full bodied with a medium viscosity, and low carbonation. Overall, a great Doppelbock – big body and big nuts…

Deep red brown with little head. Raisin fruitcake aromas and flavours and good melanoidin malt characteristics. Smooth fruity finish with a hint of chalkiness.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 BeerBaboon (967) - FINLAND - APR 15, 2012
Pours brown stuff. Yes. stuff. I just said stuff. It’s not because it’s bad but because it’s stuff. I like stuff. The stuff is made of your typical German doppelbock ingredients. It ihas caramel which is sweet malty. It is a bit roasted. That’s pretty much it. It’s drinkable though
3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 flemmingwillum (734) - Copenhagen S, DENMARK - APR 3, 2012
Rating #713, bottle from Pi Pa Po, Berlin
A mahoghany brown beer with a small head. A bit sourish aroma of roasted malts. Flavor is roasted malts, chocolate, a bit alcohol, a bit bread and a quite bitter finish. Sweeter and more chocolaty than expected - nice! Quite thick and soft palate.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 laiti (1665) - Tampere, FINLAND - APR 1, 2012
50 cl bottle @ home. Rated on 24.03.2011
Aroma has sweetish malt, some chocolate and hints of metal. Flavour is malty with roastiness, some chocolate, hints of metal and coffee. Decent DP, not as rich on malt or sweet like many others in this category.
