Decent size head from pour, dark amber appearance. Some carbonation, good lacing. Aroma of bready malts, wheaty. Thick spicy flavours, roasted matls, with a bit of citrus and notes of raisins/grapes. Not too bad.

50cl swingtop bb11/15, Maruhn. Ruby maple pour, very nice cap. Releases little of its supposed world-class (WBC 2012 Gold) quality charm upon nosing, even when letting it chamber: some roasted nuts, dried molasses on Graubrot toast. Taste is equally hermetic: slow honey, nut paste, honey-coated malts, Kellogg’s Smacks: quality foodstuffs, but little to redeem this heavy-hitting, bulky style that will probably always remain too literal a sum of its constitutive ingredients to me, although the abv is well-hidden, mouthfeel very smooth. The yeast does its thing without any extra lure, joining honey with hops in honest toil, then goes quietly home for a hard-won Feierabend. After downing the better part of a bottle you can feel your paunch starting to expand, the appetite for more inspired fare dwindling.

Bottle straight from a beer market in southern Munich. Clear amber with lasting head and lace. Mild grassy spicy aroma with lots of toasted caramel. Toasted caramel mildly bready sweetness with some slight medicnial aftertaste and grassy woody bitterness. Medium body. Need to let it warm up a bit. Okay.
