Pours dark, cola brown with no head, just an oily sheen on top. Aroma is chocolate, coffee and nuts. Taste is molasses, caramel, and sweet. Sweetness masks the alcohol content, which is sort of present in the smell ,but not at all in the taste.
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 braznadian (59) - Washington, USA - DEC 19, 2012
Had at The Soup Cellar in Leavenworth, WA, flip top bottle. Explosive pour. Ruby brown with giant bubbly tan head. Strong smells of fruity malt and alcohol. Quite a bit of malt sweetness and rather creamy. Very warming, definately a big beer. Towards the end it was a bit rich. I loved it but don’t think I could drink two.

Bottle. Pours clear brown with a small white head that quickly dissipates to an uneven film. The aroma is burned malts, caramel, a little biscuit. The taste is really malty and heavy on the caramel character. Pretty solid and well priced.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Shaney (1735) - Köln / Cologne, GERMANY - NOV 20, 2012
#538

Very nice bottle design. Pours dark ruby red with flat head, that disappears very quickly. Smells malty fruity, with lots of plum. Starts sweet malty, slight sugary, with some plum and licorice. Goes into a malty-sugary and slight fruity. Awesome Doppelbock!!!
3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 erickok (2292) - Tours, FRANCE - NOV 6, 2012
Clean dark amber body with light beige haze. Caramel malts, dry yeast, nutty and sticky fruits. Body has a smooth malty base but maybe not as spicy and full as some of its competitors. Bit too clean. But still a very classy brew and a well balanced caramel sweetness, plus a nice bottle. Nice. (50cl bottle from De Bierwinkel Leiden)

Malty nutty flavor, syrup, dark bread, almonds, spicy notes, roasted, caramel, some fruit notes and some alcohol. Well balanced and drinkable.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Borresteijn (3651) - Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - NOV 1, 2012
50cl Bottle from Bierkoning, thanks Edo! Clear dark reddish brown colour, off-white head. Aroma of sweet malts, dark fruits, mainly raisins, madeira wine. Flavour is also quite sweet, dark fruits, raisins, red wine, light roasted malts, some vinous bitterness in the finish, also a bit sticky. Medium-bodied at best, oily mouthfeel. Typical bock.

Flip-top bottle as pictured. Pours a clear brown beer with a small, beige head on top. Faint aroma of malts and some caramel. Flavour is intensely sweet with a lot of malty, sugary influences. Not as full bodied as you would expect from a doppelbock, but still enjoyable during these cold, rainy days.
