3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 ronaldtheriot (785) - Laplace, Louisiana, USA - APR 8, 2013
Holzar-Bier has a thick, cream-colored head and a dark, reddish-brown appearance, with some bubbles clinging to the side and a small amount of lacing left behind. The aroma is of dark-roasted malt, brown bread, sweetness, and tea. Taste is of old, sweet, malt, dark fruit, like prunes, and almost no hop bitterness. There is also the tea note in the flavor. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Holzar-Bier finishes wet, sweet, and fairly drinkable. Overall, this is a very good beer, and I suggest checking it out. RJT
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Creedence (127) - Cork, IRELAND - MAR 29, 2013
500ml bottle at Porterhouse Cork. Pours a clear ruby brown with thin bubbly head. Lovely aroma of bread, hay, bacon, flowers and caramel. Nice medium sweetness with very light but balanced hops. Light sweet palate that’s very smooth with a medium body. Really tasty beer, I must say.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 GoufCustom (223) - HONG KONG - MAR 16, 2013
UPDATED: MAR 17, 2013
500ml flip-top bottle bought at YATA in New Town Plaza, Shatin.
Clear dark amber colour; One and a half head and off white crumpet-like foam which fade in 1 minute; Small lacing and active carbonation; Aroma of roast malt, bread, coffee, and caramel; Minimal sweet taste of dark malt, bread, toffee, hint of coffee and faint trace of citrus; Mid to light body, slick palate; Taste profile is dark malt - almost no Dunkel-like sweetness - followed by bread and very light touch of toffees. Trace of hoppiness only manifest in taste, with no associated aroma or bitterness detected. Pretty dry after taste, very easy to mouth.
Comments: this is a pleasant surprise, as I feared this may be just another sweet and coffee-ish Dunkel, a style I am not too keen about. Turns out this is a dark Landbier, with a strong dark malt character, light touch of coffee and hops. Very drinkable and inoffensive, a nice one to enjoy in a lazy Sunday afternoon.
