Bottle from Tanakaya. Dark reddish brown with a tall, fine, white head. Not very cloudy. Munich malt nose, caramel, raisin. Sweet caramel flavor, dried fruits, prunes, bready, chocolate, earthy finish, sligtly burnt. Drinkable but not so interesting.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Poured a reddish-amber with a sheen, topped by a cratered, airy head. Smooth and extremely drinkable -- oaky maltiness with an austere bite at the finish. Nice.

UPDATED: FEB 2, 2003 Re-rate:
Surprising grassy aromas not expected from this dark beer.
Golden brown, initially good head dissipates too quickly.
Fullbodied. Good winterbeer

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Given my vast experience with the Zwickel/Keller/Landbier style (3 to date), I was surprised by the dark amber/brown color of this beer. Nice creamy tan head. The nose is lightly roasted malt, caramel, a touch of plum, and a slight earthy bitterness. The caramel becomes almost syrupy in the mouth, but a generous hopping balances it out. The finish is mildly bitter and somewhat dry.

Clear amber with a fleeting head. Roasted nut aroma with some caramel and dry spice. Light bodied. Decent enough flavors of earthy caramel, roasted nuts, and lightly sweet raison bread with a hint of spices.

500 ml swingtop bottle bought in Vegas at Lee’s Liquors. Pours a light brown with a medium brown head. The aroma was a rich malty mix with some fruit. The taste was really quite full of toasted malts and a bunch of sweet fruity flavors. Bready and sweet; like some German cake. I enjoyed this one. The label was cool and so was the brew.
