Draught at Volo, June 27. Pours a great-looking deep ruby with an average size diminishing frothy off-white head. Lovely aroma , fruity and malty, along with some wood and red wine. Flavour is fruity along with light spices, some vinous notes and light wood. Medium bodied. Fantastic stuff.

On tap at Volo. Disclaimer - I donít drink red wine, so I have no idea what itís bringing to this beer. I do get the oak, I get not-quite-balsamic vinuousness, I get a surprising amout of fruitiness, and a bit of berries. Light, but probably not as dry as it would get with more age. Really interesting beer.

April 27, 2012 - on cask at Volo. Ruby-amber, hazy, smallish lasting tightly creamy off-white head. Love that aroma - only moderate alcohol, hugely fruity, sharp cereal grain, light oakiness and floral bitterness - the fruity red wine comes through a bit as well. Taste - follows, even more vinous character, light acidity, it dances on the tongue, nothing is over done and it balances all its elements well - a nice dry fruity tingly aftertaste too. Splendid.

Hazy reddish-brown. Some light balsamic, with a little woodiness. Ok, on the palate this is quite woody, with only a hint of funk, and some caramelly malt accent. Will be interesting to see what happens in a few months when the funk starts to come out a bit more.

Draft at volo. Dark red brown, long lasting cap. Aroma is sweet at first, with grape must. Smooth, soft. The complexity is not immediately apparent. The barrel character adds dryness but not tannins. Has a light, Pinot noir type of character. As it drinks tannin comes out just enough. Not bad. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Aroma malty , soft grainy hints with fruit top end. Nice. 7+
Appearance poured as hazed brown with garnet light. Medium plus creamy off white top. Rings of lace. 4+
Flavor and Palate : medium bodied. Frontal grainy elements with some tartness. Fruity berry mid. Mild alcohol. Slight vanilla accents followed. Barrel aged feel noted on walls. Late cherry elements.

On tap at Volo. Pours a lightly cloudy reddish brown with small off-white head. Aroma is fruity with lots of dark fruit and some light tropical notes, with sweet malt and light spiciness - rather mild compared to taste but the Belgian yeast was more apparent. Flavour is big, sweet dark fruit, molasses and woody alcohol note. Plus body; silky mouthfeel. Quite nice.

Deep ruddy brown pour. The nose is quite vineous with lots of bright red grape aroma along with some soft sweet plum and prune character. A little bit of cooked fruit and a hint of tartness as well. Lightly spicy with a little bit of yeasty pepper, clove and allspice. Very lean and dry which seems to accentuate the vineous aspect of the brew. Blackberry and raspberry fruitiness along with a nice light spiciness. Elegant brew that is really heightened by its time in the barrel - I hope to see more stuff like this - particularly since we have such a strong wine culture in southern Ontario - itís not all about bourbon and barley wine.

2012-04-27. Beautiful red brown body with a large beige head and lace, looks glorious in the afternoon sun. Flavour is really interesting, quite fruity, red wine character is just right - enough for nice red wine highlights but not enough to be overpowering. Wood barrel character comes out in the finish and has a fairly tannic character, particularly in combination with the red wine influence but is subtle enough that itís pleasant and not distractingly prominent. 7+ Aroma is relatively mild, mild sweet fruity malt, wood and red wine. Very light yeast character. 7 Smooth average plus to medium body, soft carbonation. 3+ Richly enjoyable, rather good! On tap at Volo, Toronto

[4402-20120427] Tap. Licorice-based black cherry juice aroma with a hint of dark malt bread. Hazy, dark red brown body with a long-lasting foamy off-white head. Tasty black cherry pumpernickel bread malt flavour. Medium-full body. Delicious base, good wine infusion creates another interesting level. (7/3/8/3/15) 3.6
